Maura Higgins received some backlash after admitting she hadn’t watched the popular, Oscar-winning film, One Battle After Another, even though she was invited to an exclusive Academy Awards event.
The 35-year-old, who previously appeared on Love Island, has been busy promoting her recent work in the United States after being on the show The US Traitors. She was also a guest at Elton John’s yearly Oscars viewing party, along with many other celebrities.
Since Maura planned to watch the awards ceremony and find out who won, it’s reasonable to think she had a chance to see some of the major nominated movies beforehand.
The Love Island star confessed she hadn’t seen one of the big winning films from this year’s awards show, explaining she simply hadn’t had the time.
The interview, posted on X, sparked criticism from fans who felt she received an invitation to the Oscars party while people who actually worked on the films were left out.
Maura joined a crowd of non-professional actors at the after-Oscars parties, including a star-studded event hosted by Elton John. Brooklyn Beckham, Dua Lipa, and Sharon Osbourne were also there.

In an interview with Sky News, Maura was asked if she was happier about One Battle After Another winning Best Picture, or if she preferred Ryan Coogler’s Sinners.
She admitted she hadn’t seen it, explaining that she hasn’t been watching much TV recently because she’s been very busy.
Okay, seriously, I saw this clip from the interview and I’m livid. People are asking the right questions! Like, the people who actually make these movies, the crew who kill themselves working, they don’t get invited to these things, but she just strolls in? For what?! What has she ever done for the film industry to deserve a spot there? It’s just… infuriating! I need answers!

At the 98th Academy Awards, both Michael Jordan, 39, and Buckley, 36, surprised many viewers. Jordan won Best Actor for his role in ‘Sinners,’ while Buckley took home the Best Actress award for her performance in ‘Hamnet.’ The ceremony was held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
Paul Thomas Anderson, along with Teyana Taylor and the entire team behind the film, received the night’s biggest award. The movie was also the most celebrated, taking home six wins.
Everyone is likely to be talking about Jordan winning Best Actor for his performance in Ryan Coogler’s movie, Sinners.
Thirty-year-old Timothée Chalamet, known for his role in Marty Supreme, surprised many by winning over established favorites during awards season. He beat out strong contenders like Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), and Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent).
Jessie Buckley continued her winning ways as she earned Best Actress for her role in Hamnet.
Thirty-six-year-old Irish actress Saoirse Ronan won the award, beating out competitors like Rose Byrne, Kate Hudson, Renate Reinsve, and Emma Stone.
