Timothée Chalamet appeared quiet and reserved at the after-Oscars parties on Sunday night, choosing not to attend the Governor’s Ball where winners were getting their awards personalized.
Perhaps it would have been too painful to watch everyone else celebrate.
Timothée Chalamet had a rough night at the awards show. He didn’t win Best Actor – Michael B. Jordan took home the prize – and was the target of several jokes throughout the ceremony, particularly from host Conan O’Brien.
Everyone expected him to win the award this year for his role as a ping pong player in ‘Marty Supreme,’ but his chances faded as the awards season went on. He often seemed arrogant, while Jordan consistently won over audiences.
His last mistake – saying things like no one was interested in opera or ballet – happened on March 5th, just as Oscar voting ended. While it cost him public support, it likely didn’t change the outcome of the vote.
When the cameras showed Timothée Chalamet clapping for Jordan’s victory on Sunday, the audience burst into laughter.
That sound marked a moment where a popular young actor was being made fun of by more established stars.
At the Vanity Fair Oscar party, held at the LA County Museum this year, he looked downcast while sitting on a white sofa near the edge of the room. Meanwhile, his girlfriend Kylie Jenner happily chatted with her family – sisters Kendall and Kim Kardashian, and their mother, Kris Jenner.
Let me tell you, I noticed something interesting at the party. This guy was wearing sunglasses inside for a good portion of the night, which is always a bit of a statement! And honestly, he seemed pretty quiet and reserved. I barely saw him interact with anyone; he really kept to himself and wasn’t making the rounds, you know?
He and Kylie left on their own, which was a little strange, but they quickly met up at Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s yearly Gold party. The party, held at the Chateau Marmont, was still going strong when Monday morning arrived.
Oh my god, last night was ALL about Michael B. Jordan! Did you SEE him? And can we talk about the fact he owns part of a football team?! Seriously, a total king. But the best part? After the awards, I swear I saw him practically in tears hugging Leo DiCaprio. It was so sweet, I almost died. He’s just… perfect.
Leonardo DiCaprio, often perceived differently in the media, took a considerable amount of time to talk with and congratulate Jordan on joining the major leagues.
As Jordan acknowledged emotionally from the stage it felt like a culturally significant moment.
He joins a small group of Black actors who have won the Best Actor Oscar – only five others have done so: Sidney Poitier, Denzel Washington, Forest Whitaker, Will Smith, and Jamie Foxx. Halle Berry remains the only Black woman to have won the Best Actress Oscar, which she did in 2002.
Everywhere Jordan went, people celebrated him. Even a quick trip to the In ‘n’ Out Burger near the Dolby Theatre caused a stir – he ordered two Double-Doubles and fries, and customers immediately started taking pictures and videos.
Leonardo DiCaprio, sporting a new moustache, attended a show with his girlfriend, model Vittoria Ceretti. While she later joined the post-show fashion crowd at a Vanity Fair party, DiCaprio stayed behind at the Governors Ball, quietly enjoying a bottle of red wine with Guillermo del Toro. Perhaps, at 51, he’s moving past his days of partying.
Irish Oscar winner Jessie Buckley was a radiant presence, attending with her husband Freddie Sorenson and family, and clearly overjoyed.
She said brightly, ‘You can sleep when you’re dead.’ She then chatted with her ‘Hamnet’ co-star Paul Mescal, who stayed close to his girlfriend, Gracie Abrams, throughout.
As a lifestyle observer, I’ve noticed Jacob Elordi, the incredibly popular Australian actor – you might know him from ‘Wuthering Heights’ – has been turning heads since his recent split. It’s no surprise he’s been getting attention from some amazing women, including actresses like Nicole Kidman and Teyana Taylor – he definitely has that effect!
Instead of stopping for interviews at the Vanity Fair party, Elordi went straight for the bar, ordering vodka and limes. He spent the evening chatting with stars like Kendall Jenner, Cara Delevingne, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Hailey Bieber, enjoying the company of the younger Hollywood set.
Once again, the couple kept their distance at the event. Justin Bieber attended Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s party around 2 a.m., but his wife wasn’t with him, despite the fact that he avoided the official Vanity Fair after-party.
Some people complained about the new rules at the Vanity Fair party, where guests were required to cover their phone cameras with stickers. Security was very strict, and the number of attendees was limited.
Sean Penn, the Best Supporting Actor winner for his role in “One Battle After Another,” didn’t attend the awards ceremony. Instead, he was in Ukraine meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky to show his support for the country during the war.
