Following a memorable Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles, the buzzworthy film One Battle After Another is gaining popularity on streaming platforms. While the March 15th event celebrated cinematic achievements and One Battle After Another led the night with six awards, it’s not the most-watched film online right now.
The horror film Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan, is currently very popular on HBO Max. Released in April 2025, it recently won awards for Best Actor, Best Original Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Score at the Academy Awards, where it received a record-breaking 16 nominations.
Just a day after its release, the movie Sinners is already a huge hit. It’s currently the second most popular title on HBO Max in the US (after the documentary Fukushima) and the most-watched movie worldwide, according to Flix Patrol. Viewers are either discovering it for the first time or rewatching it, proving Sinners is quickly becoming one of the most discussed films of the moment.
Ryan Coogler Made History with ‘Sinners’

I was so thrilled to see Ryan Coogler win the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay! While he didn’t get the Best Director award for Sinners, he absolutely deserved that screenplay win. You can really feel how personal the movie is – he even told The Washington Post it’s the closest thing to his own life story that he’s ever created. It’s clear he put everything he had into it, and it really shows.
Ryan Coogler made history last night by becoming only the second Black filmmaker to win the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Jordan Peele was the first, winning for his film Get Out. Considering the long history of the Academy Awards, only six Black filmmakers have ever been nominated for this award. It’s still disappointing to remember that John Singleton didn’t win in 1991 despite the critical acclaim for his film, Boyz n the Hood.
Will There Ever Be a Sequel to ‘Sinners’?
Given how successful the movie Sinners was, many expected Warner Bros. to make a sequel. However, director Ryan Coogler doesn’t seem interested. He’s stated multiple times that he intended the film to be a standalone story with a definite ending.

After focusing on big franchise films like Creed and Black Panther for a while, I wanted to do something different,” Ryan Coogler explained to Ebony Magazine. “I was eager to work on a project that felt truly original, personal, and offered audiences something new and unique.
I envisioned the movie as a complete and satisfying experience, like a multi-course meal with everything you’d want – from appetizers to dessert. I wanted it to feel fully realized and finished, and that was always my goal from the very beginning. That’s how I described my vision throughout the process.
Consider that project finished, so don’t expect a sequel to Sinners 2 anytime soon. Instead, we recommend checking out the incredibly unique series currently available on HBO Max.
