As a lifestyle and entertainment observer, I noticed quite a bit of chatter online Sunday night about the Oscars coverage on ITV. A lot of viewers weren’t happy with Jonathan Ross’s pronunciation of some of the celebrities’ names, and many found the whole presentation a bit embarrassing. It’s always tricky with names, but it definitely sparked a conversation!
The 98th Academy Awards took place this weekend, bringing Hollywood together at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles to honor the best in film.
Jonathan, age 65, rejoined the UK coverage team, working with presenter Elle Osili Wood, actor Samson Kayo, and comedian Fred Asquith.
Shortly after the show began, viewers went to social media to express their frustration with the host mispronouncing some of the celebrities’ names and accidentally swapping the names of two actors.
People said he mispronounced the name of talk show host Conan O’Brien and had trouble saying the name of Norwegian actress Renate Reinsve.
As the awards show was being broadcast, viewers took to X (formerly Twitter) to comment, with many jokingly suggesting that Jonathan Ross should learn how to pronounce the names of the nominees and winners.
‘is jonathan ross intentionally pronouncing everyone’s name strangely?’,
‘might start a drinking game where I take a shot every time jonathan ross pronounces a name weird’.
Viewers also noticed Jonathan accidentally swore after confusing actors Javier Bardem and Benicio del Toro, thinking he was off-air.
People online commented that Jonathan Ross seemed to confuse Javier Bardem with multiple other people during the ITV Oscars broadcast. They shared this observation with the hashtag #itvOscars.
‘Did Jonathan Ross just curse lol #oscars.’,
Jonathan Ross mixed up the names of several people – calling Bencio ‘Javier’ and even throwing in ‘Joaquin’ – during the Oscars broadcast. It seems retirement might be on his mind! #ITV #Oscars
‘Jonathan Ross mixing up Benicio Del Toro + Javier Bardem now!?’,
Jonathan Ross mistakenly confused Javier Bardem and Benicio del Toro, and people are jokingly suggesting he shouldn’t be allowed near the Oscars next year. It’s a running joke that many find exhausting!
Ugh, I was so frustrated watching the Oscars coverage! People were right to call out the panel – it was just painful. Jonathan Ross clearly hadn’t bothered to look into who was nominated, and it showed! The absolute worst part? They acted shocked when Amy Madigan won. Seriously?! It was just embarrassing to watch, honestly. I couldn’t believe they had no clue!
Viewers frequently reported issues with the sound during ITV’s broadcast, describing it as having unpleasant static and interruptions.
As a huge Oscars fan, I have to say the sound quality during the coverage was really frustrating! So many people were saying the same thing – it was almost impossible to enjoy the show because of the audio issues. Seriously, please fix it for next time!
‘Thought it was only me. It’s awful.’
‘oscars on itv is both awful squeaking noises and awful sound quality. yay!’
Hey @ITV, the audio for the Oscars coverage is really bad. It sounds muffled and distorted, like it’s being played through something thick and fuzzy.
‘There’s a technical issue with the sound @ITV for the Oscar’s, a horrid bleeping noise’.
The show had a bit of a rough beginning with some sound problems, but those were quickly fixed so everyone could enjoy it.
Daily Mail has contacted ITV for comment.
The film One Battle After Another concluded the 2026 awards season with a Best Picture win at the Oscars, where Michael B. Jordan and Jessie Buckley were recognized as the best actors.
At the 98th Academy Awards, both Jordan, age 39, and Buckley, 36, surprised many viewers. Jordan won Best Actor for his performance in ‘Sinners,’ while Buckley was named Best Actress for her role in ‘Hamnet.’ The ceremony took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.
Paul Thomas Anderson, along with Teyana Taylor and the entire team behind the film, received the night’s biggest award. The movie was also the biggest winner overall, taking home six awards.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m always keeping an eye on what’s trending, and let me tell you, this new American black comedy action-thriller is the one to watch! It really stood out from the crowd, beating out a ton of other interesting titles like ‘Bugonia,’ ‘F1,’ ‘Frankenstein,’ ‘Hamnet,’ ‘Marty Supreme,’ ‘The Secret Agent,’ ‘Sentimental Value,’ ‘Sinners,’ and ‘Train Dreams.’ It’s a real win for this film!
Led by Leonardo DiCaprio, the movie ‘One Battle After Another’ follows a team of former revolutionaries who come together again when one of their own needs help rescuing his daughter. Their mission is complicated by the return of an old enemy after sixteen years.
I’m still buzzing about last night! Everyone is talking about Jordan winning Best Actor for his incredible performance in Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. It was such a well-deserved win, and honestly, the highlight of the whole evening for me!
Thirty-year-old Timothée Chalamet, known for his role in Marty Supreme, surprised many by winning, defeating previously favored actors like Leonardo DiCaprio (One Battle After Another), Ethan Hawke (Blue Moon), and Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent).
Jordan couldn’t believe it when he walked onto the stage and saw Adrien Brody, the previous year’s winner, waiting to greet him.
The story follows two brothers who move back to their hometown hoping for a fresh start, but they soon find themselves facing a terrifying new threat: vampires.
Jordan played both of the Moore brothers in the film: the older, more serious Elijah, nicknamed ‘Smoke,’ and the younger, more upbeat Elias, known as ‘Stack’.
Jessie Buckley continued her winning ways as she earned Best Actress for her role in Hamnet.
Thirty-six-year-old Irish actress Jessie Buckley won the award, defeating nominees Rose Byrne, Kate Hudson, Renate Reinsve, and Emma Stone.
I was absolutely thrilled to see One Battle After Another sweep the awards! Paul Thomas Anderson truly deserved both Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay – it was amazing to watch his vision come to life on screen.
Meanwhile, Sean Penn was not in attendance as he earned his third Oscar.
The famous actor, age 65, won the Best Supporting Actor award for his performance in One Battle After Another. Kieran Culkin announced his name, but the actor wasn’t present to accept the award.
Amy Madigan took home the first award at the Oscars 2026 on Sunday night.
The 75-year-old actress won the award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the supernatural horror film, Weapons, directed by Zach Creggar.
Oh my gosh, the Best Actress category was insane! I was seriously on the edge of my seat because she was going up against so many incredible women – Elle Fanning, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, Wunmi Mosaku, and even Teyana Taylor! It was a total battle of the titans, and I honestly couldn’t predict who would win. Each performance was just… everything!
I was so thrilled to see Ryan Coogler finally win Best Original Screenplay! It’s amazing that ‘Sinners’ brought him that recognition – it’s a truly epic film and he absolutely deserved it.
A particularly moving moment of the evening was Autumn Durald Arkapaw’s win for Best Cinematography for her work on Sinners.
The second award presented that night went to KPop Demon Hunters, which won Best Animated Feature Film – a truly remarkable achievement.
