The stars of the movie Bridesmaids got fans excited when they came together to present awards at the 98th Academy Awards on Sunday.
This sequel arrives 15 years after the original comedy, which was released in 2011 and featured a star-studded cast including Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne, Ellie Kemper, Maya Rudolph, and Wendi McLendon-Covey.
McLendon-Covey wasn’t at the ceremony this weekend, and she explained on Instagram that she had to miss it because she was recovering from surgery.
The audience erupted in cheers as Wiig, McCarthy, Byrne, Kemper, and Rudolph walked onto the stage together.
Kristen Wiig, a former cast member of Saturday Night Live, expressed her joy to the audience, saying, ‘It’s amazing to be here with everyone tonight, and I can’t believe it’s already been 15 years!’
Oh my gosh, he said it! He actually said it! He was totally joking, but he said backstage they were messing around with the dates and figured out they filmed the movie way back in 1883! It was so cute and silly, and I’m obsessed with everything about it!
Kemper began to explain why the film’s score was so important, but a crew member handed them both a note, cutting them off mid-sentence.
The actresses looked around, puzzled, as McCarthy asked if the items came from audience members.
Rudolph read her card aloud, saying, ‘It says, ‘First of all, you ladies look absolutely beautiful tonight.'”
She offered a polite ‘Thank you, that’s nice,’ then went back to her reading. The note said, ‘You’re all aging well,’ and was signed by Stellan Skarsgard.
The camera immediately showed Skarsgard in the crowd, and his calm nod sparked laughter from the audience full of celebrities.
Byrne read her note aloud, sharing a message that said, ‘Rose, please stop staring at me. It’s really making me uncomfortable, and I’m thinking of leaving. – Leonardo DiCaprio.’
The camera focused on DiCaprio, who had a mustache, and she said, “I’m so sorry, I was staring. I mistook you for someone else.”
McCarthy chimed in with, ‘It happens to him a lot,’ before reading the note in her hand.

“To be honest, my handwriting is nearly illegible – it’s really quite bad,” the former Gilmore Girls star admitted.
Elle Fanning wrote a separate message saying, “Hi, I’m with Stellan Skarsgard. I agree, you all look beautiful, and I think everything you’ve done to enhance your appearance is done very well.” She signed it with “Yours truly.”
Fanning subtly gestured to her face, then gave a thumbs-up to the performers on stage.
McCarthy exclaimed, reading aloud, “Wait, there’s more! It says, ‘Just kidding, it’s me again, Stellan Skarsgard!’ Seriously?”
I was completely cracking up when Kristen Wiig read her note! It was so direct. Basically, she said we were rambling, that the segment was way too long, and honestly, we’d completely lost track of what we were even supposed to be talking about – the score! It was hilariously blunt.
And that’s everything! Sending lots of love. That’s Benicio del Toro – or, if you’re not familiar with Spanish, it means ‘Benedict of the bull.’ Is that how it translates?
The camera focused on the actor, who playfully checked his watch as a lighthearted way to urge the presenters to announce the winners.
Kemper read the note last and shared its message: “I’m tired and want to go home. This show is really long and there’s no pizza.” It was signed by the child actor from “Hamnet.”
Jacobi Jupe could be seen nodding which caused the crowd to laugh and applaud.
The cast of Bridesmaids then announced the winner of the Best Original Score Oscar, which was Ludwig Göransson for his work on the film Sinners.
They also announced the second award for achievement in sound.
Rudolph jokingly wondered, “I was counting my money earlier and it made me think – what is sound, anyway?” He asked if anyone else had ever considered that.
McCarthy said, ‘It’s a real puzzle, Maya. They’ve consulted leading scientists, even someone as brilliant as Steven Spielberg, but nobody has an answer. Frankly, I’m let down by you, Steven.’
The camera showed Spielberg with his hands raised, looking shocked and confused as the audience laughed again.
Kemper offered to help, explaining he’d recently discussed the topic with someone he met on a rollercoaster. She pointed out that without sound, we wouldn’t be able to hear at all.
Following a few more humorous remarks highlighting the significance of sound design, the Academy Award for Best Sound was presented to the team behind F1.
People quickly took to X to discuss the reunion, and many called for a follow-up movie or show.
People expressed their joy at seeing the cast of Bridesmaids together again, with one fan saying it ‘made me so happy’ because they were ‘hilarious.’ Another suggested the cast could host an event next year, or even do a reunion similar to the Spy movie sequel.
One fan tweeted that they’d love to see a ‘Bridesmaids’ sequel, suggesting it could center around Annie’s wedding and calling it ‘amazing’.
I’m definitely not the only one hoping for more! I’ve seen so many people online saying we need a ‘Bridesmaids 2’ – everyone just loves that cast, and honestly, I wouldn’t mind seeing a sequel myself. It would be amazing!
One X user expressed a desire for a sequel to ‘Bridesmaids,’ or at least a movie reuniting the original cast. Another user agreed, saying a new film with the actresses would be fantastic, calling them ‘the absolute best!’
I’m seriously obsessed with Bridesmaids and I never thought I’d be that person, but we absolutely need a sequel! I’m telling you, it’s a must-have. And honestly? The cast is just too hilarious to not be hosting the Oscars from now on. They’d make it amazing, every single time!
McLendon-Covey didn’t attend the reunion, and she quickly explained why on Instagram.
I’ve been getting a lot of messages asking, so I wanted to share: I had a neck lift last week because I didn’t like how my neck was looking. That’s why I couldn’t attend the Academy Awards. Everything went well, and there’s no need to worry!
The actress also shared a selfie of herself in bed, wearing a facial wrap.
Bridesmaids was released in theaters in 2011 and directed by Paul Feig.
Oh my gosh, it was HUGE! Seriously, it made almost $290 million at the box office with a tiny $32.5 million budget – can you believe it?! But it wasn’t just a money-maker, everyone loved it. Critics were raving, it was perfect!
The funny movie earned two Academy Award nominations: Melissa McCarthy for Best Supporting Actress, and for Best Original Screenplay.
