Dead by Daylight is a hugely popular horror game that helped popularize the idea of ‘asymmetrical multiplayer horror,’ where one player hunts others. Even after almost ten years, it’s still loved by players, and now a new four-part spinoff will bring the game’s scary experiences to fans in a different way.
Fans of gaming and comics, get ready! Derek Fridolfs (known for Batman: Arkham City), Dean Kotz (Black Hammer, The Savage Sword of Conan), and Alison Hu (Corvus) are releasing the first issue of Dead by Daylight: The Hillbilly on April 8, 2026. You won’t want to miss it!
This comic book isn’t just going to tell the story of how The Hillbilly became a killer in Dead by Daylight – it also includes a special code for the game, making it a great purchase for any fan!

The trailer lets us meet Officer Darnell Hollis, and though it’s short on details about the story, the official description offers a clearer picture of what to expect.
New police officer Darnell Hollis makes a huge drug bust in his town, bringing him to the attention of city officials. This success could be a turning point in his career and provide a better life for his family.
The new recruit is plagued by terrifying waking nightmares filled with gruesome images. Meanwhile, at Coldwind Farm, Hollis encounters a monstrous creature hidden in a basement, driven by a thirst for violence. And shrouded in fog, a man known as Boy is testing the limits of his restraints, anticipating the moment he escapes.
The comic series appears to be centering on a single main character, a departure from the game where players usually see one Killer face off against four Survivors. This new approach should keep readers engaged and bring a unique feel to the Dead by Daylight universe.
The first issue of the comic book, Dead by Daylight: The Hillbilly (#1), will be available for $4.99 at most comic book stores. It features cover art by Alex Horley, with special variant covers by Niclas Mortensen, Francesca Ciregia, and Dean Kotz. The second issue is scheduled to release on May 13, 2026, with issues #3 and #4 expected to follow in June and July, respectively.

Following the success of their 2023 collaboration on Dead by Daylight Volume 1: The Legion – a graphic novel written by Nadia Shammas with art by Dillon Snook and Emilio Lecce – Behaviour Interactive and Titan Comics are releasing Dead by Daylight: The Hillbilly #1. The Legion was the first graphic novel based on the popular Dead by Daylight games.
You don’t need to play the previous Dead by Daylight chapter to enjoy The Hillbilly, but if you’re curious about the story behind the game’s villain and the overall mystery, it’s a good place to start. The game revolves around a powerful, ancient being called the Entity, which captures killers and survivors from across time and space and forces them to compete in never-ending trials.
The arrival of the unpredictable Frank throws the lives of Julie, Joey, and Susie into turmoil, and together, they ignite a violent chain of events in the quiet town of Ormond. This is where the story of THE LEGION begins.
The Entity’s power to bring killers from different worlds explains why the game has such a large and popular roster of horror icons. Players can take on the roles of famous licensed killers like Michael Myers from Halloween, Freddy Krueger from A Nightmare on Elm Street, Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Pyramid Head from Silent Hill, and many others.

One of the things fans love most about Dead by Daylight is its collaborations with other franchises, but the game also features a fantastic roster of original villains, like The Trapper, The Wraith, The Hillbilly, The Huntress, The Artist, and The Dredge. Now, Titan Comics is releasing stories that will finally reveal more about the background of The Hillbilly.
Phoebe Hedges, editor at Titan Comics, shared her enthusiasm for the upcoming Hillbilly comic based on Dead by Daylight with Comics Bulletin. She explained that the team worked hard to capture the game’s complex stories in the comic series, and she’s confident readers will be surprised by each new issue. “You’ll never know what to predict,” she said.
The first issue of this series doesn’t just offer an in-game charm with its unique code – it will reveal significant story details about The Hillbilly, and possibly other aspects of the Dead by Daylight universe. It’s a must-read for fans interested in the game’s lore.
