In Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, you can find and collect rare monstie mutations that are incredibly powerful. These aren’t just visual changes – they give your monsties better stats, new elemental attacks, and special abilities in battle.
The world is divided into four distinct regions – Azuria, Canalta Timberland, Tarkuan, and Serathis – and each one has a different environment that influences the types of mutations you’ll find. This guide explains all the mutations available in each region, what you need to get them, and how to unlock them.
Azuria – The Lush Frontier of Monster Hunter Stories 3

Azuria is the starting area for players, and it’s where you’ll find Azuria Castle. Inside the castle, you can visit the Smithy to upgrade weapons, the Stables to manage your steeds, and the Melynx Emporium for unique items. The region itself has diverse landscapes – like forests, plains, and lakes – making it a great place to begin your monstie adventures.
Let’s explore Monstie Mutations – helpful for new players facing difficult battles – and how to get them.
1. Pink Rathian
The Pink Rathian is a unique monster players can try to unlock early in the game. To do so, you first need to defeat the Yian Garuga and rescue the Rathian it’s captured. After rescuing her, you’ll need to raise her ecosystem rank to B, which will cause her to transform into the Pink Rathian.
2. Dreadqueen Rathian
Dreadqueen Rathian is a powerful, evolved form, so unlocking her takes more effort. You’ll first need to achieve an Ecosystem Rank of S with either Rathian or Pink Rathian. Then, you must restore her in an area that already has at least three monsties who use poison, like the Sunpetal Plains.
3. Ivory Lagiacrus
You don’t need a specific location to find an Ivory Lagiacrus. It appears once you’ve raised a normal Lagiacrus to Ecosystem Rank A in any region.
4. Boltreaver Astalos
Okay, so I finally figured out how to get Boltreaver Astalos! You have to get a regular Astalos all the way up to Ecosystem Rank S. Then, and this is the tricky part, you need to restore it in a place that’s naturally thundering – like a thunder-elemental area – and make sure there are at least three other monsties around that are also thunder-based. After that, keep checking the Egg Dens, and Boltreaver Astalos should eventually show up!
Canalta Timberland – Forests and Highwinds

Canalta Timberland is a beautiful area filled with lush forests, stunning waterfalls, and mountains. The town of Sheparden is the central point for the region.
Let’s dive into the region’s Monstie Mutations and how to unlock them:
1. Green Nargacuga
You unlock it by getting a regular Nargacuga to Ecosystem Rank A – that’s all there is to it. And it’s a really strong attacker, making it a great addition to any hunting team.
2. Silverwind Nargacuga
This is a difficult mutation to achieve. First, you’ll need to reach Ecosystem Rank S with either Nargacuga or Green Nargacuga. Then, restore the ecosystem in an area that naturally hosts at least two wind-based monsters like Legiana, Great Izuchi, or Paolumu.
3. Soulseer Mizutsune
Okay, so getting Mizutsune is actually pretty straightforward! All you need to do is get her up to Ecosystem Rank S. Once you hit that rank, she’ll start showing up as a monstie in the Egg Dens – easy peasy!
4. Deadeye Yian Garuga
You can get this mutation by leveling up Yian Garuga to Ecosystem Rank S and then restoring it in an area that already has at least three monsters of the same rank or higher.
Tarkuan – Marshes and Plateaus

Tarkuan is the third area you’ll explore, and it’s mostly made up of dry deserts, swampy marshes, and flat plateaus. The town of Galyad acts as the central point for the region. To unlock new mutations here, you often need to find specific environments or battle other monsties.
1. Stygian Zinogre
Unlocking this is straightforward: simply get Zinogre to Ecosystem Rank A. That’s all there is to it.
2. Thunderlord Zinogre
To unlock this, you need to reach Ecosystem Rank S with either Zinogre or Stygian Zinogre. Also, the area you’re in must have at least one purple-furred, endangered monster as a rival – for example, Soulseer Mizutsune.
3. Brute Tigrex
To get Brute Tigrex, you first need to raise a regular Tigrex to Ecosystem Rank A. After that, you’ll be able to find its egg in the Egg Dens.
4. Grimclaw Tigrex
You’ll need a Rank S Tigrex or Brute Tigrex, and you must restore it in an area that already has at least four monsters with the Power element, such as the Colossal Dragon’s Remains.
5. Hellblade Glavenus
You can unlock the Hellblade Glavenus armor set by first maxing out Glavenus to Rank S. Then, restore it in a hunting ground that has at least four monsters with legs or arms – good options include Shogun Ceanataur, Seregios, Great Izuchi, and Magnamalo.
6. Bloodbath Diablos
You’ll need to raise either a Diablo or a Black Diablo to Ecosystem Rank S, and it must be living in its natural habitat, the Bountiful Dunes.
Serathis – Home of Elder Dragons

Serathis is the last area you’ll reach in Monster Hunter Stories 3. It’s a rugged, snowy mountain region where Flying Wyverns soar through the wide-open skies.
1. Sand Barioth
Okay, so getting Sand Barioth is actually pretty easy! All you need to do is get regular Barioth up to Ecosystem Rank A, and then you can summon it in the Egg den. It’s a straightforward process, thankfully!
2. Azure Rathalos
Another simple unlocking process: Get Rathalos to Rank A to unlock Azure Rathalos.
3. Dreadking Rathalos
Dreadking Rathalos is a particularly challenging monster variant to unlock. To get one, you need to first raise either a Rathalos or Azure Rathalos to Ecosystem Rank S. Then, make sure its habitat contains at least four other Flying Wyverns, such as Barioth, Sand Barioth, or Nargacuga.
Throughout your adventure in Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection, you can consistently unlock new monstie mutations by strategically managing your Ecosystem Ranks, habitats, and the elemental strengths of your monsters.
