Kris Jenner reveals what Kylie Jenner ‘spent every dime’ of her Keeping Up with the Kardashians earnings on at 17

Kris Jenner is incredibly proud of how Kylie Jenner has grown from a teenager into a successful businesswoman, and she frequently highlights Kylie’s strong business sense.

Kris Jenner, 70, revealed on the SmartLess podcast that she played a role in launching her daughter Kylie’s, 28, cosmetics company, according to People magazine.

Jenner shared with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett that Kylie came to her with the idea for her own brand back in 2015. Kylie was only 17 years old then.

Jenner remembered telling her mom, “I’ve decided what I want to do with my life – I want to focus on beauty. I want to create a Lip Kit, and now I need you to take this idea and make it happen.”

The mother and manager, who recently stated Kim’s sex tape wasn’t faked, then admitted she reached out to others to make the idea happen and worked with Kylie to create a marketing strategy.

I asked my daughter about the marketing plans,” Jenner remembered. “I told her we needed an ad in People magazine and a billboard.

The family matriarch said Kylie responded in a calm and collected manner.

She asked me, “Are we good, Mom? I’ve got this handled, so please just relax.” I told her, “I can’t relax! You used all your savings to try and start a business based on the Kardashians, and you’re doing it all on your own. I’m worried, you’re only seventeen – what are you thinking?”

But Kylie convinced her jittery mother that she was up for it and totally prepared.

Jenner recalled the day her brand first launched, saying it completely changed the beauty industry, and she’ll never forget it.

‘She pressed send on the link to go buy this and put a post out. “Go buy my Lip Kit.”‘

When Kylie Cosmetics launched in November 2015, it was immediately popular. The first 15,000 Lip Kits, which cost $29 each, sold out in less than a minute.

Jenner explained that the items sold out in about four seconds, and they initially believed the website had crashed due to the high demand. Once they realized everything had simply sold out so quickly, they understood the product was a success. Jenner proudly noted that this was a first for the product.

Kylie used her massive social media presence to promote the brand.

In its first year, the brand generated over $300 million in sales and quickly grew from a small company into a leading force in its industry.

By 2018, Kylie’s brand was valued at $900 million, and she was quickly becoming a billionaire.

In 2020, Kylie Jenner sold a 51% ownership of her cosmetics company, Kylie Cosmetics, to Coty Inc. for $600 million.

She remained involved in creative and marketing aspects of the company.

Kylie, who has been dating Timothée Chalamet, an actor nominated for an Oscar, for the past three years, recently shared with Vanity Fair that she felt a lot of stress after first releasing her Lip Kits.

She said she couldn’t keep up with the demand.

She explained that the first year was difficult because she worried about negative reactions on Twitter from people who couldn’t purchase her Lip Kits, as she shared in a recent interview published on March 11th.

‘I couldn’t handle it because I really wanted to just make everyone happy.’

Everyone is eagerly anticipating whether Kylie will accompany her boyfriend to the Oscars, where his movie is up for nine awards, including a nomination for Best Actor.

As a lifestyle observer, I’ve definitely noticed Kylie and Timothée becoming quite the red carpet duo! They’ve been inseparable at all the major awards shows this season – I spotted them together at the Critics Choice Awards, the Golden Globes, and even across the pond at the BAFTAs in London. It’s clear they’re enjoying supporting each other’s work and making a statement while doing it!

Back in 2025, their steamy PDA at the Oscars drew gazes.

Photographers captured a sweet moment between Chalamet and Kylie as he leaned in to whisper something in her ear and gently kissed her cheek before they sat down.
