For years, Sanrio has partnered with many popular anime series to promote its cute characters, often called “kawaii.” This year, Hello Kitty and her friends are teaming up with The Powerpuff Girls, the famous superhero trio, in a surprising new collaboration.
JCPenney just launched a new clothing line for teens and young adults, featuring popular characters from Hello Kitty, Cinnamoroll, and Kuromi, as well as the classic ’90s Cartoon Network show, The Powerpuff Girls. The collection includes items like T-shirts, hoodies, jackets, tube tops, and jerseys.
The new Sanrio and Powerpuff Girls collection cleverly matches characters based on shared colors and personalities. Hello Kitty represents Blossom, Cinnamoroll embodies Bubbles, and Kuromi captures Buttercup’s spirit. You can see all the designs in the collection below.
Cartoon Network’s Powerpuff Girls Make a Comeback Starring Hello Kitty & Friends at JCPenney
The new Hello Kitty & Friends x The Powerpuff Girls collection is a unique collaboration bringing these two beloved worlds together. Many designs feature the Powerpuff Girls and Sanrio characters dressed up as each other – Blossom wears a Hello Kitty hood, and Hello Kitty wears Blossom’s signature outfit! The collection uses bright colors inspired by each character group, making for a really colorful and fun line.
This new collection isn’t just a cute nod to the Powerpuff Girls; it also brings back fond memories for anyone who watched the show growing up. The series first aired in 1998, when Cartoon Network had a distinctive black-and-white checkered logo. As a fun detail, a tube top in the Hello Kitty and Friends x Powerpuff Girls line includes that same checkered pattern, referencing the classic logo.
I’ve always been a huge Powerpuff Girls fan, and it’s been so cool to see them keep evolving even after the original series ended in 2005! We got a reboot in 2016 with Nick Jennings and Bob Doyle at the helm – it had a really fresh, updated look with sharper animation and slightly redesigned characters. But the coolest part, for me, was seeing them get an official anime version! In 2006, Toei Animation created Powerpuff Girls Z, which basically took the original idea and gave it a whole new spin.
I noticed the new Hello Kitty & Friends x Powerpuff Girls collection at JCPenney is really affordable, which is great for fans who want to update their spring and summer clothes. As of March 12th, prices are between $20 and $58, before any extra discounts or promotional codes are applied. The most expensive piece seems to be the fleece bomber jacket from the collection.
This month, Sanrio is releasing two big Hello Kitty collections. One is a collaboration with the Powerpuff Girls, and the other features Pop Mart’s popular collectible plush pendants – the cute, costumed monster characters that have become a hit with toy collectors. Both releases began on March 12th.
Sanrio’s new collection features adorable plush pendants of Labubu dolls dressed up as Hello Kitty, Pompompurin, Cinnamoroll, and Pochacco. The most sought-after item is a special, limited-edition ‘Classic Hello Kitty’ Labubu, making it a real treasure for collectors.
The Hello Kitty & Friends x The Powerpuff Girls Graphic apparel collection is available now.
