Adrian Grenier, known for his role in ‘The Devil Wears Prada,’ has spoken out about being excluded from the planned sequel to the popular 2006 movie.
In a recent PageSix interview, the 49-year-old actor expressed disappointment that he wasn’t asked to return as Anne Hathaway’s boyfriend in a potential sequel to The Devil Wears Prada.
The trailer for the new movie reveals Andy, played by Anne Hathaway, has a new romantic partner—it’s someone other than Nate Cooper, played by Adrien Grenier.
Grenier expressed disappointment at not being included this time, but he’s confident he’ll be considered for a future spin-off series.
He thinks he wasn’t asked back for the sequel because fans reacted negatively to what his character did in the first movie.
He admitted being a fan of the film, even though he wasn’t asked to return for the sequel. While he was disappointed about not being included, he also recognized that his character, Nate, wasn’t popular with everyone, which could have been a factor in the decision.
He believes this outcome still allows for a spin-off movie. Ultimately, it’s a letdown, but it opens the door for a fantastic spin-off centered around Nate and his own story.
Viewers of the first movie didn’t like how Nate was portrayed as a selfish and unsupportive partner.
Years after the film came out, Grenier finally shared how he felt about that widely held belief.
He admitted to Entertainment Weekly in June 2021 that he didn’t fully understand the character’s complexities and deeper meaning until public criticism arose online. The negative reaction and backlash helped him see things he’d missed.
He confessed, more than ten years after the movie first came out, that he was really surprised by all the memes it inspired.
I didn’t realize it until I gave it some serious thought,” he went on. “Maybe it’s because I was just as young and inexperienced as Nate back then.
Okay, so he finally admitted it! He said his character was totally selfish and just thought about himself. It hit me hard when he said he didn’t really try to help Andy with her career. He said he had to really think about it first, but it’s true – his character definitely had some flaws, and he finally acknowledged them! I’m honestly a little relieved he sees it now, even if it’s a bit late.
He said after ‘much deliberation,’ he ended up agreeing to ‘the truth in that perspective.’
In the first film, Andy and Nate had a falling out but got back together before Andy left her job working for Miranda.
During their last meeting, the boyfriend—who wasn’t popular with viewers—announced he was relocating to Chicago to start a new job as a chef.
After the first movie came out in 2006, Adrien Grenier became known for his role in the TV show Entourage and appeared in series like Clickbait. He also expanded his career to include producing, directing, and working as an environmental advocate.
I’m always so happy to hear about the personal side of things, and he’s a proud dad to two little boys! His sons, Seiko, who’s two, and Evren, almost one, are everything to him and his wife, Jordan Roemmele.
He currently resides on a ranch in Texas with his wife, whom he married in 2022, and their kids.
Filmmaker Grenier’s latest project, ‘Self Custody,’ stars and is directed by Garrett Patten, who plays a father urgently trying to recover a long-forgotten bitcoin reward now worth a fortune.
The trailer for the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada came out on Thursday, giving fans a first look at Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway reprising their roles as Miranda Priestly and Andy Sachs.
The story centers on Miranda Priestly, who faces challenges from her former assistant, Emily Charlton, now a competing executive. They battle for advertising dollars as the print media industry weakens, all while Priestly considers retirement.
Emily now holds a key leadership position at a major luxury company, and her department controls a significant advertising budget that Miranda is hoping to secure, as reported by Variety.
The sequel to The Devil Wears Prada will hit theaters on May 1st, exactly 20 years after the original movie first came out.
