It feels like yesterday, but it’s been six months since the terrible car accident in September 2025 that took everything from me – my mom, my dad, and my wife. I keep replaying it in my mind, and the pain is still so raw.
The TV star, 37, who gained fame on the TLC show Meet The Putmans, recently shared details about the accident in an interview with People magazine, saying he clearly remembers everything that happened.
Putman said his family was returning to Michigan in three cars after attending a football game where they supported his 15-year-old son, Noah.
He was driving one of the cars, which carried eight people—including his parents, Barb and Bill, and his wife, Megan.
The family was almost home – just a mile away – when a semi-truck ran a stop sign and crashed into their car.
Honestly, it was a really jarring experience – someone actually knocked on my door, and I keep wondering how things lined up for me to even be home at that moment. It’s almost like fate, you know?
I clearly recall everything – the impact of the car, being thrown onto the road, and many things that happened inside the vehicle.
It’s just… devastating. They said his parents and Megan… they didn’t make it. Gone. And poor Noah, his son, and his daughters, Lulu, who’s only thirteen, and Alena, eleven… they were all hurt too. I can’t even imagine how he’s coping with losing everyone like that, and then seeing his kids injured… it’s just too much.
His brother Brandon’s daughter, Gia, was also badly hurt and had to be flown by helicopter to the hospital for immediate surgery.
‘Megan had her arms around me when he hit us, and my dad was sleeping,’ Putman said.
My mom, dad, and Megan all died instantly at the scene of the accident. The autopsy confirmed there was nothing anyone could have done to save them.
Putman broke several bones, including in his neck, and also suffered cuts. Noah and Gia both experienced traumatic brain injuries.
He spoke about Megan, his soulmate, and her recent death. He recalled a time he told her he believed in heaven, and how she responded with a puzzled, ‘Why are you telling me that?’
We were lying in bed, holding each other, and I told her that because my love for her was so immense, this felt like the ultimate expression of it.
Brandon, who was driving a different car during the accident, shared hopeful news about his nephew Noah and daughter Gia, and also spoke about the crash.
It’s incredible how quickly he’s recovered and improved in nearly every area. The same is true for Gia.
He emphasized how being airlifted to the hospital had saved her life.
Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE this! She actually broke her collarbone and her upper arm! It’s terrifying, honestly, but everyone’s saying it’s a miracle she’s okay. I tried to lighten the mood with a few silly jokes, you know, to crack a smile, but seriously, it was a really scary moment. I’m just so relieved she’s going to be alright!
Brandon shared that Gia, after undergoing ten brain surgeries and being discharged from the hospital in January, is steadily improving. She recently said the word ‘mom,’ which is a significant milestone.
He described her as fragile, like a newborn, and shared that she’s been attending a rehab facility every day.
Following the tragic crash, other family members have been providing care and support to those affected.
Brandon shared that they enjoy reading the Bible and singing to Gia, describing their actions as incredibly compassionate and selfless.
Noah is back in school and excited to start playing sports again, including football.
Last September, the family announced on Instagram that Putman’s parents and wife had passed away.
Our family suffered a terrible loss in a car accident. We lost my father, grandmother, and aunt. We find comfort knowing they are now with God.
Please continue to pray for Uncle Blake, Lulu, Alena, Noah, and Gia, who are still in the hospital. We ask for their full recovery and for them to feel stronger each day.
The Putman family shared that despite their sadness, they find comfort in their faith and believe God is still in control.
They also sent gratitude for the love and support that they have received.
Please keep praying for us, so we can always remember that Jesus’ victory over death gives us the hope of eternal life.
In January, the family marked the occasion of what would have been Bill and Barb’s 43rd wedding anniversary with a post on Instagram.
The Putmans also offer updates on Gia’s recovery with the most recent being this week.
They positively shared that her ‘speed of recovery is nothing short of a miracle.’
Following visits to the rehab center every day, Gia enjoys doing math when she comes home.
She’s completely absorbed in math – we can’t get her to stop and go to bed unless we specifically tell her to!
Pavel B. Shchukin had been behind the wheel of the semi-truck at the time of the deadly crash.
Last December, he entered a no-contest plea to three misdemeanor charges related to a traffic accident that resulted in a death.
He was sentenced to one year in jail and additionally ordered to pay fines amounting to $1,425.
During the sentencing, Putman and his brothers, Billy and Brandon, both forgave Shchukin and presented him with a Bible.
The TLC show Meet The Putmans premiered in 2017 and documented the lives of Bill and Barb, their four adult children, their spouses, and a large family of fifteen grandchildren – all sharing one big house.
