Actor Warwick Davis has been dating a woman he affectionately calls ‘Sponge’ for a year, following the sad passing of his wife. The couple’s relationship was recently made public.
Actor Robbie Coltrane, age 56, was seen with a beautiful woman at the BAFTA awards, and he thanked her in his acceptance speech for helping him rediscover romance.
The couple was also seen behind the scenes at a Madness concert, and she joined Warwick and his children when he received his OBE at Windsor Castle earlier this week.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m hearing wonderful things about this couple! Apparently, they’ve been together for a year now, and sources tell me they’re truly happier than ever. It’s so lovely to see!
Warwick is rebuilding his life with the support of his girlfriend, following a cardiac arrest suffered by his wife, Samantha, in 2024 at the age of 53.

She prefers to stay out of the public eye and, while she’s sometimes joined Warwick at events, she doesn’t seek attention.
She’s incredibly proud of Warwick and enjoys supporting him at events, but she’s also happy to let him take center stage.
She gets along wonderfully with his kids, and they all enjoy a happy life together. Everyone just wanted Warwick to be happy, and he’s found that with his girlfriend.
When Warwick arrived at Windsor Castle to receive his honor, he was seen talking with Prince William. His girlfriend, daughter Annabelle, 28, and son Harrison, 23, watched the presentation.
He was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to drama and charity.
Warrick brought his girlfriend as his date to the Bafta Film Awards in London’s Royal Festival Hall last month.
Last July, the couple were also seen backstage together at a Madness concert in Cornwall.
During his BAFTA Fellowship acceptance speech, Warwick announced he’s found love again with a woman he hasn’t publicly identified.
He said: ‘Special mention should go to Sponge, you know who you are.
Thank you for reminding me that life is worth living, and for bringing laughter and love back into my life.
When Jonathan Ross asked Warwick about the identity of ‘Sponge’ last year, Warwick jokingly revealed it was a reference to Lord Voldemort from the Harry Potter series, calling them ‘She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named’.
Warwick notes that the character Sponge is very similar to Kerry Mucklowe from the comedy series This Country, pointing out similarities in her speech and accent.
Warwick shared that he paid tribute to his late wife, Samantha, during his speech. He explained that actors sometimes hesitate to fully commit to roles, hoping a better opportunity will appear.
She constantly encouraged me to take risks and pursue opportunities, always saying, ‘Go for it!’ She was a fantastic networker, consistently connecting with producers and securing me future work. She was incredibly supportive, which you really need in this challenging industry. It’s essential to have someone who understands and supports the demands of the job, like long hours and frequent travel.
Warwick explained that being an actor can be a very isolating job. He believes having a strong and supportive home life is essential to cope with the challenges and succeed.
Warwick’s wife, Samantha, a fellow actress, passed away at University College Hospital in London.
The investigation into her death determined that she died of a heart attack brought on by problems during and after necessary surgery.
In 2019, she became seriously ill with sepsis and required intensive care. This happened after she had surgery on her spine at University College London Hospital.
During a moving speech at the BAFTA Film Awards, Warwick honored his late wife by dedicating his Fellowship award to her.
I want to especially thank my amazing wife, Sammy, who passed away nearly a year ago. She was a constant source of support for my work and always pushed me to pursue every chance I got.
Both of his children were seen in tears as their father publicly thanked them for supporting him through a difficult year.
Things have been difficult for me since then, but my amazing children, Annabelle and Harrison, have given me the support I needed to keep working and stay positive.
The couple first connected while working on the 1988 fantasy film Willow, where he played the main character, Willow Ufgood. They tied the knot in 1991.
Warwick and Samantha had three children: Annabelle, Harrison, and a son who sadly passed away just nine days after his birth.
In 2022, Warwick shared that no parent should have to endure the heartbreak of losing a child, stating simply, ‘You never get over it.’
Five years before she passed away, Samantha became seriously ill with sepsis. Warwick stayed by her side at the hospital, supporting her as she bravely fought for her life.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen how quickly life can change. This family was so excited – they’d been planning a caravan holiday for 2019, getting everything ready. Then, suddenly, she became ill with something the doctors couldn’t quite pinpoint. At first, she thought it was just stress catching up with her, but it turned out to be much more than that.
She became very sick and was close to death, but thankfully made an amazing recovery.
Samantha sadly passed away in 2024. Warwick shared a heartfelt message, saying he was devastated by the loss and describing her as his closest and most cherished friend.
Oh, Sammy… he always called her Sammy. And honestly, she was everything to him. He’d always say she was the one person he truly confided in, his rock, and that she believed in every single thing he did with his career. It was so sweet, you could just feel how much he valued her support. She was his biggest cheerleader, absolutely.
The actor, known for his role in Star Wars, shared that being with his wife makes him feel incredibly empowered, like they can accomplish anything together. He described it as having a ‘superpower’.
Warwick described her as a one-of-a-kind person who always looked on the bright side. He added that she had a great sense of humor and even laughed at his terrible jokes, as he shared in a statement to the BBC.
After reviewing the details of Samantha’s death, Senior Coroner Professor Fiona Wilcox determined that she died from an irregular heartbeat and complications that arose after surgery to open her chest.
She shared that she has achondroplasia, a type of dwarfism, and also has serious spinal issues. These problems have required several surgeries since 2016.
She also complimented the hospital staff, stating in court that they provided ‘nothing but excellent care’ and handled all of Samantha’s medical issues properly.
She concluded that the person died from an irregular heartbeat, leading to cardiac arrest, and from complications related to previous chest surgeries.
I believe the combined stress led to this sudden and irregular stopping of the heart in a woman with no history of heart rhythm issues.
Professor Wilcox stated that the patient received consistently excellent care, and all of her medical issues were handled correctly.
It’s truly devastating that although the surgery went well, she sadly died due to later complications.
Dr. David Lawrence, a heart surgeon at University College London Hospitals, reported that Samantha was recovering well and her vital signs were stable.
He explained to the inquest that, unfortunately, the plan that night was for her to go home the next day.
The patient’s chest x-ray looked good, their vital signs were stable, and they didn’t experience any bleeding throughout the day.
While she was in the hospital, doctors removed two chest drains. The second one was taken out on the day she passed away.
The coroner, Professor Wilcox, determined that the person died of an irregular heartbeat leading to cardiac arrest, and that this was connected to complications from previous surgery on their left side.

The coroner stated that the patient received consistently excellent care, and her medical complications were handled correctly.
It’s deeply saddening that although the surgery went well, she sadly passed away due to later complications.
Before the hearing, the family shared a statement through their lawyers saying they believe the courage and strength Sammy taught them will help them cope with what’s to come.
We want to carry on the incredible spirit of love, support, and strength she showed. The Sammy’s Helping Hands fund, created in her memory, has already made a big difference to young people with dwarfism, and will continue to help families throughout the UK in the years to come.
‘The last year and trying to come to terms with Samantha’s death has been incredibly difficult.
Honestly, we’ve been hoping this inquest will finally give us the answers we desperately need. And I just want to say, on behalf of everyone affected, thank you so much to all those who have offered their support and kind thoughts – it means the world to us.
Samantha has achondroplasia, a condition she had since childhood that affects bone growth and results in dwarfism.
Her husband has a similar genetic condition called spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita, which limited his growth, and he only reached a height of 3 feet 6 inches.
Warwick Davis is famous for playing characters like Professor Flitwick and Griphook in the Harry Potter films, and for his funny appearances with Karl Pilkington in the show An Idiot Abroad. He’s also widely recognized and praised for his work supporting people with dwarfism.
In 2012, he and his late wife, Samantha, co-founded Little People UK, a charity dedicated to helping people with dwarfism and their families.
Davis will be back as Professor Flitwick in the upcoming Harry Potter series reboot, confirming his return to the wizarding world.
