The new Yellowstone spin-off, Marshals, is coming back for a second season after a strong debut earlier this month. The first episode attracted 9.52 million viewers in the US, making it the most-watched premiere for a scripted CBS series in five years.
After a week of streaming and on-demand viewing, a record-breaking 20.6 million people watched the show. The second episode initially attracted 8.4 million viewers when it first aired last Sunday, March 8th.
Because of a strong debut, CBS has quickly renewed Marshals. Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, called the show “one of TV’s most powerful new series.”

Wow, everyone’s reaction to Yellowstone is just incredible! It really shows how amazing the world they’ve built is, and the stories are so compelling because of the writers and, of course, the cast. Luke Grimes is especially fantastic – he really leads the charge with a powerful performance, and it’s clear everyone else is just as talented. That’s according to a recent statement from the show, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.
The neo-Western drama, created by and starring Spencer Hudnut as showrunner, centers on Kayce Dutton (Grimes) and his work with a unique team of US Marshals dedicated to safeguarding Montana.

I’m really excited to see Brecken Merrill back as Tate, and it’s awesome that Mo Brings Plenty and Gil Birmingham are returning as Mo and Thomas Rainwater! The cast is getting some great new faces too – Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, and Tatanka Means are all joining us, which I think will bring a lot to the show.
Although many people are watching Marshals, professional critics are split on whether it’s good, giving it a score of just 47% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 17 reviews.
According to The Daily Beast, the new show is remarkably safe and predictable. However, they also point out that, considering how well the original series performed, that might be exactly what viewers want.

However, The Daily Telegraph offered a more upbeat review, calling the show “gripping” and suggesting the Yellowstone world still has some unexpected twists to offer.
According to Variety, this approach allows Yellowstone to broaden its appeal in a more sustainable and less risky way, building on its existing cultural impact.
Marshals streams on Paramount+ in the UK.
