Serena Williams recently shared a photo of herself in a swimsuit, revealing she’s lost over 30 pounds with the help of a weight loss drug.
Tennis star Serena Williams, 44, looked stunning in a vibrant green swimsuit that showed off her figure. The mother of two, who shares daughters Olympia and Adira with her husband Alexis Ohanian, highlighted her toned physique and small waist.
Last summer, Williams faced criticism after sharing that she lost 31 pounds using Zepbound, a weight loss medication. She recently posted a message saying, ‘I’m not perfect… but I’m perfectly me.’
‘Take out time today to celebrate being perfectly you!’
Williams has previously spoken about her changing body after welcoming her two young children.
The tennis star explained that she constantly needs to practice self-love throughout the different phases of her life.
She then mentioned how good she felt about her body. ‘I actually love that I’m not perfectly shaped,’ she explained.
It sounds strange, but I genuinely love smelling like milk! It’s because that milk is helping to nourish @adiraohanian, and it’s been such a beautiful experience getting to know my body in this new way – like discovering a whole new side of myself.
It’s definitely been a positive change, and completely worth it. Begin this week remembering you are loved – and that love starts with self-love. Okay, I’m heading to the gym now. – Serena
She felt really frustrated after both of her pregnancies, finding it difficult to regain her body’s shape after giving birth to her first daughter, Olympia, in 2017, and again after her second daughter, Adira, was born in August 2023.
She shared with People magazine that after giving birth to Olympia, she struggled to regain her desired weight, despite intense training and effort.
It was a really strange experience – I’d never pushed myself so hard with work and diet, yet I still couldn’t reach my goal.
Throughout my career, I’ve always prioritized hard work and never looked for easy ways out. I understand the dedication it takes to achieve peak performance, which made it incredibly frustrating to put in all that effort without seeing any changes in my weight or body composition.
Williams explained that she quickly lost weight – a significant amount in just two weeks – after giving birth to her second daughter, but didn’t share any further details.
She remembered thinking she wasn’t sure she’d ever be able to return to the life she wanted.
Williams then consulted with the healthcare company Ro to help her select a GLP-1 medication, such as Ozempic or Mounjaro, but she was initially unsure about starting treatment.
Last August, the tennis star revealed she was using a GLP-1 medication, and many fans were upset, saying it contradicted the message of body positivity.
I really took the time to thoroughly research this before making any decisions. I kept asking myself if it was too good to be true, what advantages it offered, and what potential downsides I needed to be aware of. I felt it was crucial to fully understand everything before jumping in.
Once Adira turned six months old and Williams finished breastfeeding, she began weekly injections that have helped her feel much better.
She shared that the team was very helpful and getting her medication was straightforward. She was thrilled to have lost over 31 pounds while using her GLP-1 medication.
I’m able to do a lot more now, and I’m much more active. My joints don’t bother me as much, and everyday things like getting down on the floor are easier and quicker. I have a lot more energy, and overall, I feel really good.
Honestly, I’ve been following everything about her recovery, and it’s amazing to hear she hasn’t stopped taking care of herself! She’s still working out and eating super healthy, even while she’s been on medication. It just proves how dedicated she is – a true champion in every sense!
She explained that GLP-1 medication boosted her existing healthy habits – like eating well and exercising – whether she was training as a professional tennis player or simply going to the gym. It amplified what she was already doing to stay in shape.
I want to share my story because I believe many people will be able to connect with it.
