Genshin Impact 6.3 Stygian Onslaught Guide: Boss Mechanisms

As a fan, I’ve learned that just having the best gear isn’t enough to win! You absolutely have to understand how each boss works – their patterns and weaknesses. Seriously, you can have perfect weapons and artifacts, but if you don’t know what you’re doing, you’re going to get crushed. It all comes down to learning the mechanics.

1. Lord of the Hidden Depths: Whisperer of Nightmares

Lord of the Hidden Depths: Whisperer of Nightmares is a boss found in the Nod Krai region. When the fight begins, the boss creates a protective shield equal to 45% of its total health. If players destroy this shield within 15 seconds, the boss will be stunned, take an additional 20% damage, and become much more vulnerable to all types of attacks – its resistance to elemental damage will drop by 60%.

Using Lunar Reactions will make the Deepdark Shield take 300% more damage, but it’s completely resistant to physical attacks. When the boss activates the Deepdark Shield, it will also summon Anglers for 15 seconds. Destroying all the Anglers reduces the shield’s strength by 25%. If the shield isn’t broken within those 15 seconds, the boss unleashes a devastating area-of-effect attack that can instantly defeat your entire team.

2. Battle-Hardened Fireblade Shock Trooper

Okay, so I’ve been hearing about this boss, Lord of the Hidden Depths, and it’s apparently a big deal around the Nod Krai region. What’s really interesting is that it puts up three layers of shield, each one being 4.5% of its total health. But here’s the cool part – those shields are super weak to Electro-Charged and Lunar-Charged attacks! They take 600% and 200% extra damage from those, respectively. Definitely something to keep in mind when I go up against it!

This shield boosts resistance to all damage types by 60%, but actually lowers Electro resistance by 60%. It also recovers its strength very rapidly. However, if you’re hit by Electro-Charged or Lunar Charge attacks, the shield will regenerate much more slowly.

If we destroy the boss’s shield within 30 seconds, it will become stunned, and its resistance to all elements will drop by 50% once it recovers. Its resistance to Electro attacks will decrease even further, by 60%. However, if we fail to break the shield in time, the boss will unleash six powerful area-of-effect attacks.

3. Emperor of Fire and Iron

The Emperor of Fire and Iron is a challenging boss found in the Fontaine region. It protects itself with a Pyro shield that’s very resistant to Pyro damage (150%) and also quite resistant to other types of damage (60%). To make things harder, it simultaneously summons three Sternshield Crabs, each with their own Pyro shield. If you can break the shields on these crabs, they’ll turn against the boss and attack it.

When the Boss is attacked, it takes damage equal to 60% of the Hydro damage the Sternshield Crab received, plus 10% of all other damage received. However, this damage can’t exceed 15% of the Boss’s total health. Additionally, breaking the Boss’s shield will cause it to lose 10% of its health.

Genshin Impact 6.3 Stygian Onslaught Guide: Best Teams

This section covers effective team compositions for each boss fight, and briefly explains how to use your character to counter each boss’s unique abilities. If you’re unsure about what each character can do, please refer to the team guides where we’ve detailed everyone’s roles.

1. Lord of the Hidden Depths: Whisperer of Nightmares

Teams Character 1 Character 2 Character 3 Character 4
Lunar Bloom Team Neffer Lauma Columbina Nahida/Aino C6
Lunar Charge Team Flins Ineffa Columbina Sucrose

Lunar Bloom Team

The Lunar Bloom Team is known for its high damage output, so we’ll use the same strategy for this boss fight. Nefer will be our primary damage dealer, while Lauma, Columbina, and Nahida will provide support, additional damage, and buffs.

Lunar Charge team

This team is very strong against this boss. Flins is our primary damage dealer. Ineffa protects the team with shields, while also contributing damage and boosting the team’s overall power. Columbina is a secondary damage dealer and will buff everyone. Sucrose is our second support character, focusing on buffing Flins and Ineffa.

2. Battle-Hardened Fireblade Shock Trooper

Teams Character 1 Character 2 Character 3 Character 4
Lunar Charge Team Flins Ineffa Columbina Sucrose
Skirk Premium Team Skirk Escoffier Yelan/Shenhe Furina

Skirk Premium Team

Skirk’s team quickly defeated the Electro Shield boss by focusing on raw power. To break the shield, use Skirk’s Burst ability. Avoid using Skirk’s regular attacks, as the shield recovers health faster than your team can deal damage. Once the shield is down, continue with your established team strategy.

3. Emperor of Fire and Iron

Teams Character 1 Character 2 Character 3 Character 4
Neuvillette Premium Team Neuvillette Furina Kazuha Xilonen
Neuvillette Freeze Team Neuvillette Furina Escoffier Citlali

Neuvillette Premium and Freeze Team

Neuvillette will be the primary damage dealer for both team compositions. Furina will act as a secondary damage dealer and provide buffs to the team in both setups. For our stronger team, we’ll use Kazuha and Xilonen for support. On the Freeze team, Escoffier will be our secondary damage dealer and buffer, while Cithlali will provide buffs and a shield. In both teams, the main strategy is to first break the Sternshield Crab’s pyro shield, then focus on breaking the Boss’s pyro shield.

With Neuvillette, aim to hit the three Sternshield Crabs and the boss simultaneously using his charged attack. Once you’ve broken the boss’s Pyro shield, simply continue with your usual team’s attack sequence.

Final Thoughts

Version 6.3 of Stygian Onslaught is actually easier than Version 6.2. If you have the teams we recommend, you should be able to beat Fearless mode without much trouble. Even with just a few key characters, you can complete Dire mode.
