911: Lone Star season 5, episode 9 recap and review: Who killed Carlos’s dad?
As a gamer who’s spent countless hours binge-watching crime dramas, I can confidently say that 911: Lone Star has been one heck of a rollercoaster ride this season! Carlos finally uncovered the truth behind his dad’s murder in the midseason finale, and it was quite the twist – who would’ve thought the badge would be tarnished by none other than Chief Bridges?
Ever since my wedding, I’ve been consumed by one question: Who took down my old man? That mystery was finally solved during the midseason finale of 911: Lone Star in season 5.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS from 911: Lone Star season 5, episode 9.
Without fail, the mid-season cliffhanger lived up to expectations! It was a given that Carlos would pursue the individual behind his father’s tragic demise, and the tension mounted as there was a real risk that his own life might be at stake.
Previously, Carlos discovered that Sam Campbell, his Texas Ranger partner, was involved in his father’s murder. He confided this knowledge to their superior, Chief Bridges, and warned that if Campbell had also been responsible for the deaths of all confidential informants, then his name would be on the radar as a suspect. Naturally, Bridges uncovered the evidence.
Never trust what you’re initially told in 911: Lone Star
If your suspicions about Campbell being involved were correct, they proved to be well-founded. The TV series 911: Lone Star reminds us not to accept everything we’re told without question. Even when Campbell abruptly left his son’s birthday party, it was evident that there was more to the story than met the eye.
As Carlos attempted to apprehend Campbell, he suddenly discovered that his supposed partner had been Chief Bridges all along. When there was no one else present, Carlos confronted him about this deception. This revelation allowed Bridges to fire at Carlos, hitting him just below his bulletproof vest. If it hadn’t been for Campbell returning and shooting Bridges, Carlos would not be alive today.
Actually, luckily for him, the gunshot didn’t prove to be lethal. The bullet seemed to have struck a lung, but instead, it collided with a rib and exited through the same entry point. Quite a lucky break, indeed.
In the heat of the moment, I understood that Bridges had set me up. With a determination to prove my innocence, I fled to find a means to clear my name. If they’d arrested me, Bridges would have pinned everything on me. I was as clean as a whistle when it came to the murder of Carlos’s father or any other Confidential Informants. I knew deep down that Carlos was uncovering the truth. I made it clear that I never fired a shot at Carlos – and that remains the truth. We can’t fault Campbell for reacting as he did in those circumstances.
It appears that Bridges performed the action due to financial reasons. At this point, the Texas Rangers are still withholding most of the details, unwilling to disclose them publicly. Unfortunately, it’s unfortunate that Bridges may have his positive reputation sullied by his actions.
Ultimately, Carlos feels he’s found closure, having apprehended the perpetrator. Although it won’t mend his hurt, he understands that it’s a step he had to take. Now, with TK by his side, he’s prepared to advance in life – plans include adopting Jonah, TK’s brother.
Will Owen leave Texas in the 911: Lone Star series finale?
At the beginning of the show, Owen received an invitation to return as New York’s Fire Commissioner. Over the course of the episode, Owen grapples with his decision, seeking advice from Judd in the process.
It’s been suggested by Judd that Owen might be the right choice to become Captain of the 126. In fact, Owen himself has hinted at this, as he believes Judd was essentially holding onto the captain position until the original member, Judd, returned from before Owen joined the team.
Initially, it seemed like Owen was going to accept the job offer, but then circumstances shifted unexpectedly. One morning, Judd finds himself groggy and disoriented, with Owen beside him. As it turns out, Judd has been struggling emotionally since Grace left, and he’s been drinking heavily as a coping mechanism. Realizing the need for change, Judd acknowledges his issues, but Owen expresses his unwillingness to abandon Texas when his friend is in distress.
It’s a cute moment. I love that Owen notes that Judd is his best friend. It’s about time!
Some might find it unexpected that Judd has resorted to alcohol, but it’s crucial to recall the person Judd was before meeting Grace. She’s had a profoundly positive impact on him, and when she’s away, he experiences difficulty. Currently, Grace is occupied with what she calls “God’s work,” yet they don’t get to communicate as frequently as he desires. This leaves his home rather quiet, particularly after his daughter retires for the night.
Judd found in Owen a confidant he could truly be honest with. While many men might not express themselves openly, this is often the case among folks in general, but particularly men. The TV series “911: Lone Star” underscores the importance of being open with someone. Owen proves to be an ideal person for Judd to confide in, both as a friend who offers support and as a boss who keeps tabs on things. This gives some hope that Judd can make a positive change.
Currently, Owen has chosen to remain where he is. Yet, it seems like the story may conclude with Owen returning to New York City, allowing Judd to take over as Captain of the 126.
Last season, there was a touching subplot about Tommy’s battle with cancer, which was beautifully interwoven into the narrative. In the upcoming seasons, it seems we’ll delve deeper into this aspect as we witness Nancy and TK standing by her side. I’m excited to see how this story unfolds for Tommy next year.
911: Lone Star Season 5 returns in January on FOX. Catch up on the series with Hulu.
