911: Lone Star season 5, episode 6 recap and review: “Naked Truth”
As a long-time fan of 911: Lone Star, I must say that this week’s episode was a game-changer for me, especially with the heart-wrenching storyline involving our beloved character, Nancy (played by the incredible Gina Torres). Her struggle with the fear of breast cancer and her emotional journey to ask for support resonated deeply with my own experiences.
In the sixth episode of season 5, Brianna Baker’s character on ‘911: Lone Star’ was given a significant amount of focus for the first time, shedding light on a crucial theme and offering insights into her past experiences.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for 911: Lone Star season 5, episode 6.
In this gaming session, things kicked off in a rather unexpected way. Me and Mateo were debating whose chicken recipe reigned supreme, which somehow led to Nancy mistakenly sending a private photo to our group chat. The ensuing chaos found Paul and Mateo scrambling to rectify the situation, but Tommy caught a glimpse before whisking Nancy off to his office for a private talk.
In this case, Tommy wasn’t being disciplined. Instead, the situation concerned a discussion about a lump that Tommy noticed on himself, which understandably made Nancy and Mateo feel uncomfortable due to their feelings of empathy and embarrassment.
Nancy faces a breast cancer scare in 911: Lone Star season 5, episode 6
During the episode, we delved deeper into Nancy’s background. It was revealed that she had lost her mother at a young age and, unfortunately, there is a pattern of breast cancer in her family. Her mother, grandmother, and an aunt all succumbed to it, but they all passed away in their 50s. Consequently, Nancy didn’t anticipate facing the risk for another decade and a half.
What I love about this is that we get to see how important asking for support is. Nancy wants to be strong and independent. That’s the way she always has been, but it takes a call with a man who has a vending machine falling on top of him for her to realize that it’s okay to ask for support. That man just wanted Nancy to hold his hand in the face of death, and Nancy realized that’s what she needed.
Luckily, Mateo had previously sorted things out, so he informed Tommy about the specifics of Nancy’s mammogram appointment. This was done so that Tommy could offer moral support to her. Interestingly, Tommy also decided to undergo a mammogram examination simultaneously.
Nancy didn’t hold a grudge against Mateo over this incident. Instead, she felt appreciative since it signified someone was by her side during a tough time. To top it off, even when Nancy received positive news (it turned out to be just a cyst), she realized the extent of Mateo’s support. If Nancy were to undergo chemotherapy and lose her hair, he would do the same. This sweet gesture was exactly what Nancy required. These two make an incredibly endearing couple!
Tommy ends up with the bad news
The episode underscores the significance of regular mammograms. Despite Tommy not detecting any issues with her own breasts, she hadn’t scheduled a mammogram as she didn’t feel it was necessary. Instead, she opted to get screened for Nancy’s sake.
Nevertheless, the mammogram indicates a problem. At the close of the episode, Tommy confides in Nancy that it’s not good news.
Upcoming tale for Gina Torres promises to be emotionally intense: As numerous anxieties swirl within her, the most daunting being the possibility of her daughters being left without either parent. Interestingly, it was Sierra McClain who proposed this storyline, confident that Torres has the acting prowess to bring all aspects of this narrative to life.
Owen faces his past in 911: Lone Star
In the end, Owen decides to venture into a secluded spot to win over Thunder’s confidence. After an unexplained episode of sleepwalking, Owen comes to terms with his role in assisting his brother’s passing. Though he was merely keeping a promise, there is a deep sense of remorse within him. Marlene points out that Thunder seems to be aware of this underlying guilt.
Upon confiding everything to Thunder, Owen suddenly feels dizzy and falls unconscious. Both Thunder and the dog attempt to communicate with him, suggesting he understands the issue at hand. However, it’s too late as there’s a gas leak in the barn which has already sparked a fire. Despite his condition, Owen manages to quickly evacuate most of the horses, but Thunder proves stubborn during the process.
Owen insists on staying with Thunder. It’s puzzling because with all the lives Owen has managed to save, such as the boy rescued from the train during the chlorine gas incident, one might assume he has achieved karmic balance. However, Owen feels compelled to ensure he’s done everything possible to save any life, and for him, that means saving Thunder.
Eventually, Thunder grows confident in Owen’s care. This horse still has a chance, but Marlene reminds everyone that Thunder needs a stable shelter on the ranch. Fortunately, Owen already has plans for that. The 126 step in to assist with rebuilding the barn. There’s no need to delay the work as we can manage without waiting for the insurance settlement.
Is it possible that Owen’s troubled narrative arc is wrapping up? It’s uncertain, but my attention has shifted towards Tommy. Now, we get to witness the full extent of Gina Torres’ acting prowess.
