90s Britpop Star Looks Completely Unrecognizable in Rare Post – Can You Guess Who It Is?
A music icon looked almost unrecognisable in rare social media post which was shared on Friday.
Originally a staple of the Britpop movement, she enjoyed a series of chart-topping songs that resonated deeply with music lovers throughout the country.
The artist, now 55 years old, who initially gained recognition during the Nineties, appeared almost unrecognizable compared to her younger days, when she was famed for her unique fashion sense.
Instead of sporty attire like tracksuits, tight crop tops, blazers, and heavy eye makeup, she now opts for a more fashionable, elegant appearance.
In a vibrant red top, the musician beamed as she perused Robert Frost’s The Road Not Taken during her performance on the finale of Great British Menu.
But can YOU guess who it is from this snap?
It’s Cerys Matthews! The singer is known for being part of one of Wales’ biggest bands, Catatonia.
Her her band’s biggest hit, Mulder and Scully, reached number three in the UK charts.
She continues to frequently grace the airwaves, yet her role is that of an announcer rather than a performer. Specifically, she hosts two programs on BBC Radio.
Cerys has garnered a fresh wave of supporters by serving as the host for the weekly Blues Show on Radio 2, along with her very own program titled “Sunday Show” on 6Music.
However, the journey hasn’t been entirely trouble-free, as Cerys found herself in an apology situation following the play of a song with a racial slur on her BBC 6 Music broadcast.
In the year 2020, she showcased a cover version of the 1940 song “The Mississippi Shore,” sung by Scottish country music artist Thomas Fraser. This rendition includes the term “dickie birds.
‘I shouldn’t have aired that. I’m attempting to edit it out now with love xx.’
In the year 2022, Cerys shared a vividly illustrated reinterpretation of the radio play “Under Milk Wood”, presenting a lively version of the timeless bedtime story as a modern twist.

Catatonia originated in 1992, with Cerys and her bandmate Mark Roberts not only collaborating musically but also developing a romantic bond while composing their tunes together.
Originally, the band consisted of members Cerys, Mark, Paul Jones, Dafydd Ieuan on drums, and keyboardist Clancy Pegg. However, Daf eventually left to join Super Furry Animals, while Clancy switched to playing bass for the agit-rap group Tystion.
In their most popular period, Cerys was often associated with the iconic image of the vivacious lady, known for her lively socializing, which included tales of sharing cognac with Tom Jones and singing to Bill Clinton at the Hay-on-Wye Literary Festival.
Back in 1999, the band’s album Equally Cursed And Blessed didn’t sell well enough, even though it peaked at number one on the charts. Whispers about tension among the band members started circulating.
Back in 2001, the band Catatonia disbanded after news broke out that their lead singer, Cerys, sought treatment in a rehabilitation center due to personal battles with substance abuse involving drugs and alcohol.
They’ve mulled it over for some time, and they determined it was appropriate to wrap things up.)
‘They’ve reached a friendly agreement on their choice, and for now, there’s no information available about what they plan to do next.’
We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has been with us throughout our journey, providing us with countless cherished moments.

Following her stint at rehabilitation, Cerys moved to Nashville in 2002 and established a home with record producer Seth Riddle, starting a family with him and welcoming two children together.
Yet, they eventually separated after some years, leaving Cerys unattached. In 2007, she participated in I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here! while being single.
While in the jungle, she unexpectedly developed a romantic relationship with Marc Bannerman from EastEnders. However, their union lasted only four months following their departure from the program.
In 2011, even though their romance came to an abrupt halt, Cerys admitted she held no regrets regarding her participation in the reality TV show. Speaking to the BBC, she explained that she decided to join just to experience what it’s like being part of a reality television program.
‘One has only one life on this earth and I want to damn well fill it.’
In 2011, Cerys married her second husband Steve Abbott, and he has two children of his own.
Following the disbandment of Catatonia, Cerys began her solo journey, debuting with the release of her first album, “Cockahoop”, in May 2003, and subsequently putting out “Never Said Goodbye” in 2006.
