The latest episode of The Traitors began right after a dramatic cliffhanger, picking up after Matt had finished speaking privately. Harriet quickly became a key player, creating tension and worry among the traitors.
Harriet Tyce surprised everyone on The Traitors by openly sharing her professional background – including her work as both a criminal barrister and a psychological crime novelist – with both the Traitors and the Faithful contestants during breakfast.
She definitely caused a big disruption, just as she’d hinted she would. We all knew she was skilled at what she did, but this unexpected move still shocked everyone – except perhaps those familiar with her writing.
What to Read Next
Here’s what book critics have said about Harriet’s work that saw the events of the game coming.
In a review for The Guardian, John O’Connell praised Michelle Tyce’s 2019 novel Blood Orange, noting that Tyce, a former lawyer, created a vividly dark and disturbing fictional world. He did, however, find the plot somewhat flawed towards the end.
Some people probably thought it was a mistake for her to share her suspicions at breakfast, believing she should have kept them private.
Michelle Emerson praises Harriet as a skilled crime writer who expertly manages all aspects of her work, including engaging readers, developing compelling characters, crafting complex plots, and vividly portraying the story’s setting.
Before revealing she was a Traitor, the others would have definitely described her as meticulous, particularly after how skillfully she eliminated Hugo.

One reader praised Harriet’s novel, The Lies You Told, noting that the story’s gradual build-up was crucial to its impact. While opinions may differ on whether the reveal was truly slow, it was definitely more drawn out than in Amanda’s book, where things happened much faster.
In a review for My Weekly, Linda Hill described a narrator as unstable, creating a feeling of suspense and unease – a feeling many fans likely experienced when Harriet made her choice. It certainly left readers on edge!
Reviewer Luke Harkness described the novel Blood Orange as having characters who felt exaggerated in their reactions and dialogue. He also noted the plot encouraged readers to constantly question everyone’s motives. This observation perfectly captures the essence of the reality show The Traitors, where suspicion and judgment are central to the game.

Another blogger, writing about Blood Orange, shared a similar sentiment, saying they started to understand the character’s circumstances, even while disagreeing with some of her impulsive decisions.
One blogger praised Harriet’s actions, saying they were surprised by how things ended, but ultimately found it a rewarding conclusion, even if it was unexpected. The other competitors likely feel the same way.
I’m a huge Harriet fan, and honestly, her books are just full of surprises! I read another review of Blood Orange that said it had twists that actually made them gasp out loud, and that there were so many dark turns you wouldn’t believe it. It sounds amazing, and totally up my alley!
If that doesn’t sum up Wednesday night’s episode, we don’t know what does.
