9 Most Anticipated Action Movies Coming in Summer 2025

This summer of 2025 is packed with blockbusters that are leaving cinema-goers eagerly anticipating! Theaters have some fantastic and highly-anticipated films lined up, ranging from sequels of popular franchises to unexpected comebacks. Regardless of your preference, there’s a movie tailored for you, especially within the preferred genre.

In the upcoming months, I’m excitedly looking forward to a wide array of movies that span various genres – from comedy-action flicks and superhero blockbusters to fantasy epics and gritty fighting films. Whether you’re a fan of high-speed car chases, futuristic battles, intense hand-to-hand combat or other thrilling elements, these are the movies that will undoubtedly catch your attention in the near future.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (May 23, 2025)

Viewers might catch the climax of “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” at the onset of this summer’s action-packed movie lineup. This film, initially known as “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2”, serves as a direct continuation and extension of the narrative from the previous movie. While each installment in the series is a sequel, “The Final Reckoning” will bring to a close the tale that started back in 2023 with “Dead Reckoning”.

In a new installment, Ethan Hunt embarks on another perilous mission, confronting an old adversary, Gabriel, along with an advanced artificial intelligence known as the Entity. Following recent events, Hunt now possesses two parts of a golden key capable of annihilating the Entity and revealing its hidden truths. To vanquish these malevolent forces once and for all, he must reunite his team. The trailer hints that this could be Ethan Hunt’s last hurrah with the IMF, making fans eagerly anticipate The Final Reckoning.

Karate Kid: Legends (May 30, 2025)

The Karate Kid series has experienced an exceptionally captivating evolution over time. Initially, the first three films featured Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita as Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Miyagi, respectively, traveling globally to master karate. In 1994, The Next Karate Kid emerged, with Morita reprising his role but this time teaching a new Karate Kid, Julie Pierce. After a long hiatus, the series resurfaced in a reboot-sequel format, titled simply Karate Kid once more. This film, often overlooked, offers a fresh take on the original story set in contemporary times, with China serving as the backdrop instead of sunny California.

YouTube Red, YouTube’s streaming service, created a “Cobra Kai” series, which revolves around Johnny Lawrence, the antagonist from the original movie, played by William Zabka. This series sparked a resurgence in the franchise, eventually leading the studio to conceive a nearly cross-over “Karate Kid” production. In this spin-off, a new “Karate Kid” will be trained under Jackie Chan’s character from the 2010 film, with Ralph Macchio also involved.

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina (June 6th, 2025)

Following a prolonged anticipation, the action genre in the movie “Ballerina,” previously recognized as “From the World of John Wick: Ballerina,” came into view. After the climactic finale of the “John Wick” series with “John Wick: Chapter 4,” viewers believed they had witnessed the conclusion of the assassin world. Despite the disappointing performance of “The Continental” series, enthusiasm remained high for future spin-offs and sequels in this genre.

Between the thrilling episodes of “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” and “John Wick: Chapter 4,” I, as a supporter, am eagerly anticipating the release of “Ballerina.” This movie will delve into the story of Eve Macarro, a former student from the academy glimpsed in the third “John Wick” film, who just happens to be a ballet-skilled assassin. Macarro is on a mission for vengeance, seeking retribution for her father’s untimely demise – a recurring motif in this action-packed universe. This quest leads her down a blood-soaked path of violence and revenge.

Jurassic World Rebirth (July 2nd, 2025)

As a die-hard film lover, I must confess that the Jurassic World trilogy didn’t quite meet the high critical acclaim many of us were anticipating. However, it undeniably raked in an enormous sum of money, making the choice to prolong the franchise a no-brainer. The upcoming movie, titled Jurassic World Rebirth, strays from its predecessors by swapping leads Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt for Jonathan Bailey and Mahershala Ali. This new installment is aiming to transport audiences back to the thrilling and petrifying times of the original Jurassic Park series.

Five years following the occurrences depicted in “Jurassic World Dominion”, an exploration team led by Scarlett Johansson’s and Jonathan Bailey’s characters will venture to a remote island, previously utilized for creating and testing the dinosaurs showcased later on. Their objective is to acquire essential resources needed for a groundbreaking medical discovery. To achieve this, they must navigate through the unfamiliar landscape while avoiding becoming prey for the dinosaurs that inhabit it.

Superman (July 11th, 2025)

With James Gunn and Peter Safran named as the fresh creative leaders for the DC Universe following the multiple setbacks of the DC Extended Universe, fans were thrilled. Having crafted an engaging universe with Guardians of the Galaxy and demonstrating his knack for DC stories with The Suicide Squad, Gunn is now preparing to introduce a new comic book series and the inaugural film in the revamped universe – Superman.

Titled originally as “Superman: Legacy“, this upcoming movie will see David Corenswet playing Superman, Rachel Brosnahan portraying Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult stepping into the shoes of the antagonist Lex Luthor. Brimming with iconic comic book characters and oozing warmth and nostalgia for long-time fans, many anticipate this summer blockbuster as a potential highlight, if not the pinnacle, of the year.

How to Train Your Dragon (July 13th, 2025)

Although it may not be entirely accurate to categorize this film as an action flick, if the movie sticks closely to the original story, as suggested by the trailers, it promises to deliver an exhilarating cinematic experience at theaters. The movie features Mason Thames from “The Black Phone” playing Hiccup, Nico Parker taking on the role of Astrid, and Gerard Butler reprising his character Stoic the Vast in a live-action portrayal.

The public is both enthusiastic and split over this upcoming movie. Remaking an iconic animated film into live-action isn’t usually justified unless it’s to tell a fresh tale, but there’s still a great deal of excitement surrounding this production. Some speculate that the film’s main purpose is to market Universal Studios’ latest theme park expansion, the Isle of Berk at Epic Universe. Regardless, fans of the original trilogy are eager to see how this new chapter unfolds. With its exceptional status among modern animated films, How to Train Your Dragon promises to be visually stunning in live-action already.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25th, 2025)

After a long time of anticipation, comic enthusiasts can look forward to Marvel’s First Family making their debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the movie titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“. In this film, Pedro Pascal will portray Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby will bring Invisible Woman to life, Joseph Quinn will embody the Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach will play the Thing. The First Family will encounter Ralph Ineson’s character, Galactus, in their adventures. Additionally, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, Paul Walter Hauser, and several other talented actors will round out the impressive ensemble cast for this film.

The movie “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” is helmed by Matt Shakman, a director renowned for his work on numerous hit TV shows, such as the critically acclaimed Marvel series “WandaVision”. With the Fantastic Four finally joining the Marvel universe following years of being owned by 20th Century Fox, alongside other beloved characters like the X-Men, this film could very well be the blockbuster of the summer.

The Naked Gun (August 1st, 2025)

Audience members everywhere are taken aback as it’s announced that Liam Neeson will lead a new movie, this time directed by Akiva Schaffer from The Lonely Island. Remarkably, this film is set to continue the storyline from the third installment, Naked Gun 33⅓: The Final Insult, making it the fourth film in the Naked Gun series. It’s intriguing that the Naked Gun has grown into a franchise, and the comedy is clearly not missed by this movie. Just from the trailers, it’s evident that the film is well-aware of the humor involved in a Naked Gun reboot.

Besides Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, Kevin Durand, and other well-known actors, this film features a star-studded cast. Although a new version of “The Naked Gun” might seem implausible, the trailer suggests to fans of the initial trilogy that it will honor the original comedy. The rebooted “The Naked Gun” is poised to be the funniest action movie of 2025.

Nobody 2 (August 15th, 2025)

In the movie titled “Nobody,” Bob Odenkirk, who is also known as Nobody, is not typically what people might expect for an action lead. However, this film effectively disproved that notion. After a home invasion forces Hutch to revisit his violent past, he gets entangled in a criminal world once more. Despite the allure of returning to his old life as a special operative, Hutch decides to confront the criminals alone. Given its success, it came as no surprise when it was announced that “Nobody 2” would hit theaters in August this year.

In the upcoming film, “Nobody 2“, the Mansell family hopes for a peaceful vacation akin to those in “National Lampoon’s Vacation>”. However, Hutch’s penchant for action makes it impossible for him to avoid it. Before long, he’s embroiled in another criminal plot, which he’ll undoubtedly handle with his signature blend of brutality and excitement. The movie aims to end the summer blockbuster season with a thrilling climax.
