9-1-1: Lone Star’s Rob Lowe reveals the dark ending fans didn’t see

9-1-1: Lone Star finale spoilers follow.

After watching the last episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star, I was intrigued to learn that Rob Lowe shared a grim ending he had envisioned for his character.

The star, formerly seen as Owen Strand on “The Floor” across every season, recently discussed the series finale with TVLine. This dramatic conclusion involved an asteroid striking Texas, a catastrophe that Owen managed to prevent by averting a nuclear reactor meltdown.

As a dedicated viewer, I found myself questioning whether Owen met his demise during the latest episode. But, to my immense relief, it turned out that he wasn’t six feet under! Instead, I learned that he had taken on a new role as the head of the fire department right here in New York City. What a twist!

However, Lowe confessed that he secretly wished for Owen’s character to perish in the final episode. He was so determined to see this occur that he proposed a different ending, aiming to bring his wish to fruition.

“Oh, I pitched the possibility of Owen going out in a blaze of glory 100%,” he said.

I presented a heart-wrenching scene reminiscent of a hero’s journey, where the character, Owen, passes away, and later, in the hospital, there’s a tribute with applause from everyone present.

As a gamer, I get why they chose not to write off Owen. It’s tough enough losing a series at its peak, let’s not lose a character too.

Instead of sending him on a sunset journey, why not imagine him starting a new adventure with a sunrise in the east? His actions throughout the series have been nothing short of remarkable – he transformed the 126 into a close-knit family, and he revitalized his own loved ones. And just like that, his mission has come to a successful conclusion.

“Now it’s time for Owen to figure out what his next chapter is.”

Moving forward from his days as a firefighter, Lowe is considering several roles that appeal to him. These include starring in a TV series based on the Secret Service, collaborating with Taylor Sheridan on a project, taking on a Western role, and possibly portraying a construction worker.

“I’ve been trying to work my way through all the members of the Village People,” he joked.

As a dedicated fan, I want to share that while the original 9-1-1 series grabs attention on ABC in the United States, the spinoff titled 9-1-1: Lone Star found its footing on FOX. Fortunately, both shows can be enjoyed in the US via Hulu, and for those across the pond in the UK, they’re available on Disney+.
