The science fiction film High Life came out on November 7, 2018, and was directed by Claire Denis. It featured Robert Pattinson and Mia Goth in leading roles. Despite critical attention, the movie didn’t perform well at the box office. Interestingly, High Life first premiered in France several months before its release in the United States, where it debuted nationwide on April 5, 2019.
Despite being considered one of the most exciting science fiction films of the last ten years, High Life didn’t perform well financially. It only played in 146 theaters across the United States and earned a total of just $2.8 million worldwide. With a production budget of €8 million, the film ultimately lost a significant amount of money.

The movie centers around a group of criminals who are sent on a dangerous mission to a black hole, hoping to find a new source of energy.
The mission is incredibly risky, but what really makes this sci-fi movie stand out is its focus on the characters. The inmates are treated as if their lives don’t matter, and trapped in the isolation of space with their deepest desires and fears, the spaceship becomes a place where they start to unravel, leading to madness or violence.
Robert Pattinson shines as Monte, a prisoner striving for redemption who unexpectedly finds himself responsible for a child in the harsh environment of space. Pattinson gives a captivating performance, while Juliette Binoche portrays the scientist Dibs as truly unlikeable, and Mia Goth delivers a heartbreaking performance as Boyse. High Life is a disturbing and thought-provoking science fiction thriller that stays with you long after it ends.
