8 Mile Star Reveals Hollywood’s Perks Are Gone
8 Mile actor, Omar Miller, openly discussed how Hollywood perks for actors are becoming less common as the movie industry undergoes transformation.
This week, during an interview with The Daily Mail Bag, the 46-year-old actor, who has collaborated with renowned directors like Spike Lee and Ryan Coogler (director of Black Panther), looked back on his career that started in the ’90s.
In response to being asked about significant changes on set throughout the years, Miller noted that currently, everything seems more ‘streamlined’ or ‘unified.’
He elaborated, ‘When I started out, movies held considerable significance. They were costly undertakings. Plus, they came with certain privileges.’
Among Omar’s initial projects are films such as “Sorority Boys” (2002), “8 Mile” (2002), “Shall We Dance?” (2004) and the 2005 release, “Get Rich or Die Tryin'”.
They’ve significantly reduced the profit margins due to the transformation in the business, a shift that is quite apparent in our workplace. Nowadays, everything seems leaner…

Additionally, Miller highlighted a positive aspect of the transformations within the entertainment sector. He stated that the speed at which things happen has increased significantly due to the widespread use of digital technology instead of film for production.
The actor mentioned that the latest production he worked on, titled “Sinners,” was filmed using traditional film stock, and he was thrilled about this retro approach.
Every frame feels priceless when I’m working with film, and I adore that sensation since it intensifies the challenge and makes every action carry a tad more weight.
In comparison to film, digital technology is typically less expensive and offers advantages during post-production processes like editing.
In his most recent film, “Sinners,” penned and helmed by Ryan Coogler, Omar mentioned that the camera used during production had a notably powerful sound.
The film also stars Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton and Jack O’Connell.
In a bid to escape their tumultuous pasts, identical twins decide to go back to their childhood home, hoping for a fresh start. However, they soon realize upon their return that a far more sinister force is lurking, eagerly anticipating their comeback. (Based on IMDB)
I’ve stepped into the shoes of a character named Cornbread, immersing myself in the chilling world of a forthcoming supernatural horror, which will be unleashed upon us as early as this coming Friday, the 18th of April.

Ryan Coogler has experience in leading high-grossing films and is recognized for his work on movies like Black Panther (2018), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), Creed (2015) as well as the upcoming Creed III (2023).
Omar mentioned that he’s looking forward to teaming up with Coogler, and he considers him as one of the most influential filmmakers active globally today.
However, Ryan is collaborating with you. He didn’t use absolute terms or make a statement that entirely changed the perspective of the situation.
Regarding sinners, Miller pointed out that Ryan had thoroughly established the historical backdrop of the movie, depicting the 1930s in Mississippi, specifically a rural region inhabited by sharecroppers, common folk, musicians, and church-goers.
‘This has numerous intricate aspects that show his deep thinking, and I must commend the impressive young fellow. I eagerly anticipate his future endeavors. Fingers crossed, he pens more work for me in the future.’
Omar collaborated with Academy Award-winning filmmaker Spike Lee, notably on the 2008 epic war drama “Miracle at St. Anna.
When queried about the advice Lee shared with him, the actor conveyed that Spike had said something like: “It’s all about building a body of work.

Miller went on to explain, ‘While some movies struggle initially to connect with an audience, it’s more about building a strong and enduring collection of work over time.’
He emphasized the significance of maintaining a long-term perspective, likening it to a marathon rather than a sprint. Before acknowledging Lee, he made this point.
Reflecting on my own journey, I realized that my body of work is remarkably diverse, spanning genres from animated stories, heart-pounding horrors, laughter-inducing comedies, to deeply emotional dramas – truly a spectrum of creative expressions.
It’s been fantastic as I have the chance to switch things up. Everything is new and exciting. Jokingly, he mentioned that it feels like a global tour, all paid for by the studio. In simpler terms, he enjoys the journey.

Amongst the works I adore associating with Miller, there’s none more thrilling than my role as Sol George in the 2002 movie “8 Mile”, starring alongside rap legend Eminem, the late Brittany Murphy, Anthony Mackie, Kim Basinger, Taryn Manning, and Evan Jones. What a dream come true that was!
‘The experience that I had making 8 Mile was unmatched,’ Omar expressed. ‘It was like no other.
If you watch that movie, you’ll notice that it was where many of us launched our careers, and I can’t help but wish to experience those times again because several of my co-stars from that film have unfortunately passed away. However, I wouldn’t want to alter the role itself in any way.
Additionally, Miller has been involved with various productions outside of the ones mentioned earlier, which encompass television series like CSI: Miami and Ballers (from 2015 to 2019), as well as movies such as Naples To New York.
