78 & High: Succession Star’s Shocking Cannabis Confession
Succession star Brian Cox has revealed he likes smoking cannabis to unwind.
The Scotsman, 78, revealed he smokes a gently spliff to relax after a day’s work.
Brian, a resident of New York City where the substance is legal, clarified that he had been cautious about such substances and believed himself to be too immature for their use.
But now the Olivier award winner feels ‘the opposite’.
In an interview for the Rosebud podcast, he shared his thoughts: “Drugs have always been intriguing to me, but I was cautious about them. Now, I’m less apprehensive, yet initially I was. I didn’t lean towards that lifestyle. Honestly, I felt too young and viewed it as a distraction that I wasn’t keen on. Instead, I preferred focusing on other things.
In a different context, I might say, “Back then, it was widely used, almost everywhere you looked, people seemed to be smoking marijuana. However, I only gave it a try once, and at the time, I wasn’t particularly drawn to it. Now, my feelings have changed.

Inquired about whether he currently employs cannabis for relaxation purposes, he responded affirmatively, stating: “Indeed. Particularly during performances such as this one, by the end of the day I like to relax. I typically enjoy a tranquil joint.
I’m thrilled to be taking center stage in the captivating production of “The Score” at the illustrious Theatre Royal in Haymarket, sharing this enchanting journey with my beloved wife, Nicole Ansari, who graces the stage at 56 years of age.
The couple married in 2002 and share two sons Orson Jonathan and Torin Kamran.
A week ago, they disclosed details about their initial encounter and how the Succession actor was left embarrassed by Nicole’s actions.
In an episode of the Dish podcast, Brian shared that their initial encounter occurred in 1991, during his performance of King Lear in Hamburg.
Following the performance, he reminisced about an incident: “There was a lively gathering held post-show, and I remember this energetic lady with quite a lot of…hair. She hasn’t lost much of it yet…
He noted that their conversation flowed effortlessly, remarking, “We chatted non-stop for what felt like an eternity. And I must say, it was simply astonishing, absolutely remarkable.
Yet, it turned out that the story wasn’t a romantic fairy tale as expected, because Nicole was already involved with someone else when he met her.
He added: ‘It was discovered later on that she had been involved with another performer from the same troupe, which is something they often do.’

The pair later met again in Milan, where Brian falsely assumed Nicole had come to visit him.
In Milan, where I was, she unexpectedly arrived. Upon seeing her, I found myself taken aback. We were in a restaurant, and I rose from my seat, feeling instinctively that she had come to see me. Admittedly, I acted rather impulsively as one might do in such a situation.
And as everyone entered, I found myself feeling rather embarrassed since my response of “Oh” didn’t turn out to be accurate.
Nicole affirmed: “Indeed, I did see him. However, my partner was already there, unbeknownst to me. In that moment, I realized I had arrived for my partner, not him.
Explaining how they crossed paths again eight years later, it was Nicole who made the first move.
Later on, exactly eight years after, I found myself performing on Broadway, portraying an artist, and I arrived at the theater quite late.
Upon entering, the stage doorman, Jerry, greeted me and mentioned, “Hey Brian, it seems you have a note. A woman left this note last night. You can find it in your cubby hole, that’s where the note is.
I called the given phone number, which turned out to be the location where she was residing at that time (note: this was prior to the widespread use of mobile phones). When I asked if she could pass a message, she informed me that she was on another call.
Right after that, someone approached and informed you, “It appears you have an unclaimed ticket for tonight, since there was no show-up.
When I talked to Nicole, I told her, “Here’s your pass to the event tonight. If you fancy it, feel free to attend.
‘After running the whole distance, she ended up with a ticket. In response to this, I came up with an ingenious solution… I played my ticket and we went tango dancing that evening.’
Initially, I struggled terribly with tango dancing. Still, I decided to give it a shot. And then she appeared, and that was the end of the story for me.
