70s TV icon wears bold political hat during rare outing with actress wife who famously said ‘NO’ to Elvis
Enthusiasts delighted as they spotted one of Tinseltown’s timeless duos making an appearance in sunny Los Angeles on a recent Tuesday.
In a charming scene, the beloved M*A*S*H star, now 85 years old, and his long-time partner, 81, who first gained fame on The Donna Reed Show, were noticeably smitten as they walked together, hand in hand, through a sunlit Burbank park.
In a more casual style, wearing jeans, a neat white t-shirt, and a witty black cap that said “Make America Ordinary Again”, this well-known figure from television stood out significantly compared to his past portrayal of the tidy army doctor B.J. Hunnicutt in the classic show set in the 1950s.
Simultaneously, his timeless partner – who had sung the 1961 hit “Johnny Angel” as well – attracted attention with her pastel-pink hairdo and a David Bowie t-shirt. She displayed the same vibrant youthfulness that made her a teen idol and later a popular figure on Coach, sharing screen space with Craig T. Nelson.
In days gone by, she shone brightly on screen alongside Elvis Presley in movies like Girl Happy, Spinout, and Clambake. Despite the fact that The King himself was said to have fallen for her, this budding actress, who was already committed, boldly rejected him without a moment’s pause.
Still stumped?

If you guessed Mike Farrell and Shelley Fabares—you’re spot on!
The adorable couple have been going strong since tying the knot back in 1984.
Prior to experiencing long-term love, Farrell had been wedded to Judy Hayden – his college sweetheart who taught English and Drama at a high school in Laguna Beach.
In 1963, they got married and went on to have two kids, Michael and Erin. However, they eventually separated in 1980 and officially ended their marriage with a divorce the next year.
Shelley also had a high-profile first marriage, saying ‘I do’ to music producer Lou Adler in 1964.
Despite parting ways only two years after, it wasn’t until 1980 that their divorce was officially completed. This timing was fortuitous, as it gave both celebrities an opportunity for another chance at romance.
Hailing from Saint Paul, Minnesota, Farrell has established a multifaceted and esteemed profession in the glamorous world of Hollywood.
In the fourth season, he became a part of the renowned MASH unit, taking over from Wayne Rogers’ role. His heartfelt portrayal of the compassionate Army Doctor B.J. Hunnicutt swiftly endeared him to viewers.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but acknowledge that standing shoulder to shoulder with Farrell was an iconic ensemble cast. Alan Alda portrayed Hawkeye, Loretta Swit brought Hot Lips Houlihan to life, and Jamie Farr embodied Klinger among others. Together, they etched a lasting legacy on the show we all cherish.
Following the conclusion of MASH, Farrell went on to create a noteworthy acting portfolio, featuring him in various television appearances such as guest slots on Justice League.

Additionally, he moved to the other side of the camera, creating the critically-acclaimed 1998 movie “Patch Adams,” with Robin Williams in the lead role.
Farrell’s post-M*A*S*H* career also includes a notable role in the legal drama Providence.
He also became the Vice President of the Screen Actors Guild for a time.
During this period, Fabares gained popularity and recognition as a teen sensation on The Donna Reed Show. By the late 1950s and early ’60s, she had become a familiar face across many homes.
After achieving success in music with the number-one single “Johnny Angel”, she went on to pursue her acting career, appearing in films and TV shows as well.
During the 1980s and 1990s, she garnered critical praise and received Emmy nods for portraying Christine Armstrong in the television sitcom, Coach.

Early in her career, Shelley starred opposite Elvis in films like Girl Happy and Spinout.
Although Elvis was reportedly smitten, Shelley famously turned down his advances.
Since then, she’s clarified that although there was no romantic relationship between them, they had a deep affection for one another. It was liberating for her not to feel the burden of romantic expectations.
She once described the enchanting aura of the iconic figure like this: “His presence was so powerful, it silenced everyone around him. You’d simply stand there, mesmerized, unable to speak or act. He was strikingly attractive and his charisma was nothing short of awe-inspiring.
