7 must-watch shows not to miss this week – from “masterclass” period drama to Sally Lindsay’s crime show

Recently, TV enthusiasts have been treated to a wide array of choices, as June has seen the unveiling of several captivating shows that satisfy their cravings for compelling dramas.

Among the offerings is the beautifully crafted BBC drama titled “What It Feels Like for a Girl“, the latest season three installment of one of Netflix’s lesser-known shows, and “Outrageous“, an engaging new period drama featuring actor Bessie Carter from “Bridgerton“.

We have been enjoying a mix of dramas. There’s the new season of a less popular Netflix show called “What It Feels Like for a Girl“, the BBC version. Also, there’s a new period drama called “Outrageous” starring Bessie Carter, who you might recognize from “Bridgerton“.

The past period has been filled with one hit after another, and next week (starting from June 23) is no exception. There’s a taste for everyone, even for those who enjoy solving murder mysteries (if you found Death Valley intriguing, continue reading).

What to watch this week – from Monday 23 June, 2025

The Gilded Age

If you’ve been craving more of those captivating historical dramas, then you’ll be thrilled to know that the new season of “The Gilded Age” is coming soon, taking us back to the 1880s once more!

In this fresh installment of the soap opera “Downton Abbey”, created by its producer Julian Fellowes, we’ll continue the storyline from where the hints of deception left off in the final episode of season two.

As the Russells strive to surpass themselves and enhance their standing even more, one can’t help but wonder if the price they might pay will be excessively high.

The Gilded Age will be available to watch on Sky Atlantic and NOW from Monday 23 June.

Transaction

As a gaming enthusiast, imagine immersing yourself into a unique and colorful universe, but this time set in a British supermarket. The game, titled “Transaction”, revolves around the character of Liv (portrayed by Jordan Gray), a flamboyant, transgender individual who stirs up chaos in the peculiar world of nightshift at the superstore. This is based on the synopsis provided.

The preview promises a captivating blend of amusement and introspection, with Liz noting that she and her fellow night staff appear to have been hired for their ability to represent the store’s diversity.

Considering this, events take on a significantly playful twist as energetic Liz swiftly recognizes her indispensability, giving her free rein to act as she pleases – even stirring up trouble.

Transaction will be available to watch on Tuesday 24 June on ITVX.

The Madame Blanc Mysteries

For enthusiasts of murder mysteries, “The Madame Blanc Mysteries” presents Sally Lindsay as the protagonist, Jean White, an antiques expert. A tragic event befalls Jean when her husband’s unexpected demise leaves her financially strapped.

Her late husband’s death seems suspicious, so using her knowledge of antiques, she decides to move to France and take up private detective work to uncover the truth about his death, while also assisting the local authorities in their investigation.

Previously aired on Channel 5, the well-liked series is set to reach new viewers on Netflix starting from June 25th.

Ironheart

As a dedicated gamer, I can confidently say that the enchantment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is at its peak in their shows – though let’s not forget about the exceptional Thunderbolts*, it was truly remarkable! With this in mind, I am optimistic and fully expect that the upcoming Ironheart series will be an unmissable viewing experience for me.

After the premieres of “Daredevil” and “Agatha All Along”, the solo tale for “Ironheart” unfolds, taking place following the occurrences detailed in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”. The story will bring back Riri Williams, a brilliant teen inventor played by Dominique Thorne, as she returns to Chicago.

In her innovative approach to constructing iron suits, she truly shines. However, as she chases her dreams, she becomes entangled with the enigmatic and captivating character known as ‘The Hood’, played by Anthony Ramos.

You can stream Ironheart starting from Tuesday, 24th June in the United States, and on Wednesday, 25th June in the United Kingdom, exclusively on Disney+.

The Ultimatum: Queer Love

In the second season of “The Ultimatum: Love Among Queer Couples,” a fresh batch of same-sex partners will venture into an exploration to determine if their relationship has a promising future ahead.

The central idea of the series revolves around a situation where one partner in every pairing has given an ultimatum – either get married or part ways. This predicament leaves them in a state of uncertainty.

The Ultimatum: Queer Love will be available to watch on Netflix from Wednesday 25 June.

The Bear

The nail-biting cliffhanger at the end of season three had fans utterly shattered, and this week, we’re diving back into the tumultuous kitchen of Chicago, where a brand-new set of dramas are ready to unfold.

This season, striving for perfection is not merely about improving yourself – it’s about determining what truly matters and hanging onto it.

It seems clear that their restaurant, run by Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) and Sydney (Ayo Edebiri), is more than just a place for fine dining. At its core, it’s about the people who make it what it is.

In the United States, you can catch season 4 of The Bear starting on Wednesday, June 25th. Meanwhile, viewers in the UK can stream it a day later, on Thursday, June 26th, exclusively on Disney+.

Squid Game

Fans find themselves in a mix of emotions as they reach the conclusion of an exceptional show such as Squid Game, but the tantalizing cliffhanger at the end of season two makes them eagerly anticipate the next installment.

The third season of the thriller series will delve into Gi-hun’s (played by Lee Jung-jae) intense despair after his coup attempt fails. However, can he find the strength to overcome his sorrow and guilt in order to finally defeat the game for good?

As it is the final outing, fans should expect a bloody (in the literal sense) entertaining ride.

Squid Game will be available to watch on Netflix from Friday 27 June.

The inaugural print issue of Digital Spy’s magazine, titled “British Comedy Legends,” is available for purchase! Grab a copy from your local newsstand or online, now at an affordable price of only £3.99.
