7 good scary movies recently added to Netflix
As a horror enthusiast who has spent countless nights huddled under the covers, I find myself drawn to the chilling tales that keep me awake and my heart pounding. Let’s delve into these terrifying treasures one by one.
Keeping up with Netflix’s frequently changing library can be challenging due to new additions and deletions. Could you tell me what new titles have been added this week, and also inform me about any films that might have been taken off recently so I don’t miss them?
As a devoted horror fan who has spent countless nights huddled under blankets, clutching flashlights for dear life during marathon movie sessions, I can confidently say that this year’s Halloween season has gotten off to an incredible start! Netflix has outdone themselves by adding a plethora of chilling new and classic horror movies to their catalog. It used to be such a hassle, aimlessly scrolling through the endless abyss of content in search of fresh fright-fueled films. But this time around, I’ve got my fellow horror enthusiasts covered! I’ve meticulously compiled a list of some of the best new additions to Netflix‘s Halloween lineup – so grab your popcorn and prepare for a spine-tingling adventure!
Life (2017)
As we eagerly count down the final days until “Alien: Romulus” graces our cinema screens, let me remind you to take a trip back in time and re-experience the heart-pounding sci-fi horror adventure, where I, as a member of an intrepid crew, journeyed into the vast expanse of space to examine a Martian sample rumored to confirm the existence of otherworldly beings.
When the entity behaves aggressively, the ISS concludes that humans might be safer living on Earth independently. Life takes over most of the Alien’s storyline, but it remains a moderately enjoyable B-movie with its share of excitement and suspense. The cast, comprising Jake Gyllenhaal, Rebecca Ferguson, and Ryan Reynolds, makes it a worthwhile viewing experience.
Bone Tomahawk (2015)
A cult classic, Bone Tomahawk is easily one of the most disturbing movies you will ever watch, and it has become known primarily due to a certain infamous scene. I won’t spoil it in case you decide you want to watch it and be surprised, but be warned, the film is incredibly graphic, and the way that the specific death sequence is filmed, the fact it is long and drawn-out featuring very..accurate sound design, makes it an excruciating watch.
A blend of Western and horror genres, the movie titled “Bone Tomahawk” features Jeff Bridges, Richard Jenkins, and Matthew Fox in the roles of three gunmen who embark on a mission to free kidnapped individuals from the grasp of savage cannibals.
Tarot (2024)
A less-than-impressive film, yet one that I find hard not to enjoy. I was captivated by “Tarot” during my theater visit earlier this year.
The movie, titled “Tarot“, isn’t revolutionary but functions like a standard PG-13 horror film in the genre of gateway horror. However, I must acknowledge the creators for their innovative approach with the distinct monster concepts. As a Sony production, it premiered on Netflix on August 1 and has consistently ranked among the Top 10, which surely signifies its success!
Child’s Play 2 (1990)
In simpler terms, “Child’s Play 2” is one of those uncommon sequels that manages to surpass its original. The movie builds on what people loved about the first “Child’s Play,” making it even more terrifying. Chucky, the doll, becomes a horror legend thanks to the voice acting of Brad Dourif and the creativity of Don Mancini.
In a subtly amusing manner, Child’s Play 2 significantly influenced the trajectory of the series, maintaining its popularity for over three decades. Notably, Netflix has acquired the rest of the Child’s Play movie franchise (excluding the original film and the television series).
Jigsaw (2017)
In a different take, many “Saw” enthusiasts criticize “Jigsaw” as one of the weakest films in the series, but I’d counter that argument, believing it surpasses the franchise’s true low points such as “Saw 3D” or “Saw 7”. What sets “Jigsaw” apart is its intriguing characters, particularly Eleanor, a fan favorite from within the universe who is portrayed brilliantly by Hannah Emily Anderson. I hope to see her character make a comeback someday.
In this film, I must concede that the traps seemed less engaging than those in previous ones. However, I found merit in their creative approach to wrapping up the storyline, especially since it offered a surprising twist that distinguishes it from other films. This unique ending suggests there could be further development in a potential sequel or spin-off.
The Nun (2018)
Personally, I must confess that The Nun II didn’t resonate with me; I found it barely superior to average. Yet, among my circle of friends and family, there seems to be a contrasting appreciation for The Nun. This group includes my mom, sister, some dear friends’ parents, and a handful of others who seem to have enjoyed it more than I did.
As someone who has spent countless hours delving into the realm of supernatural horror films, I must say that if you’re a fan of the Conjuring series, then I highly recommend giving The Nun a try. I’ve found that this movie is a terrifying addition to the franchise and it seems to appear on Netflix and Max rather frequently, so if you keep an eye out for it, I’m confident you’ll catch it sooner or later. In fact, I recently rewatched The Conjuring 2 on Netflix and it reminded me of how much I enjoy the chilling atmosphere that this series creates. If you haven’t seen any of the movies yet, now is a great time to jump in and experience the terror for yourself!
Pearl (2022)
The Ti West slasher trilogy prequel movie won’t be streaming on Netflix until August 16th, but I thought it would be helpful to bring it to your attention since Netflix has already aired the previous film, “X”, and the final installment of the trilogy, “MaXXXine”, is now available on PVOD.
In 1918, West drew inspiration from widely-loved color films such as Mary Poppins and particularly, The Wizard of Oz. Mia Goth reprises her role as the main character who initially dreams of stardom but plunges into despair when her aspirations don’t unfold as hoped.
