As a lifelong Star Wars fan who’s seen my fair share of battles and adventures across the galaxy, I can confidently say that the creatures lurking in the shadows of this far-off world are truly something else! From brain-controlling parasites to venomous centipedes, these creepy-crawlies have given me more than a few sleepless nights.

In the Star Wars galaxy, from the eerie Dathomir witches to Luke’s heart-stopping encounter with the wampa on Hoth, the spooky essence of Halloween is echoed. With its exceptional creature design, the franchise offers an ideal means to rejoice as we draw near to this festive season.

Here are 7 creepy-crawly creatures from the galaxy far, far away.

1. Geonosian Brain Worm

Brain worms are creepy enough slithering around, but just wait until they inflect someone. With the capacity to control the actions of anyone they infect, these parasites turn friends into enemies…and zombies! They also have the unsettling habit of popping out of the mouths of their victims as they attack a new host. These creepy creatures are what make The Clone Wars episode “Brain Invaders” perfect to watch for Halloween!

2. Dianoga

Beware, the Black Lagoon’s monster! Scattered throughout the cosmos in junkyards and garbage disposals lies the enigmatic dianoga. These creatures, sporting seven tentacles, are infamous for grabbing unwary victims from the water – even ex-farmers of moisture from Tatooine. A solitary eye rising ominously from the depths could be your only warning that a harrowing battle for survival is imminent.

3. Abersyn Symbiote

Readers of Doctor Aphra comics would be familiar with these creatures: Abersyn symbiotes are parasites that subsist on brainstems and possess a link to the Force, enabling them to siphon energy from their hosts. Despite their pink tick-like appearance, there’s an undeniably vampiric quality to these symbiotes. Their intelligence and cooperative nature allowed them to overtake an entire civilization.

4. Kouhun

As an ardent enthusiast, I must say that kouhuns, resembling centipedes, are notorious for their chilling role in the attempted murder of Senator Padme Amidala. Their stingers carry lethal venom, and they possess a bone-chilling habit of hunting in swarms. They employ warmth to trace their quarry and frequently prey on creatures far larger than themselves. These elusive predators are so stealthy, and their venom acts with alarming swiftness, making them a preferred weapon for assassins.

5. Krykna

Despite their size, krykna maintain their unsettling characteristics, resembling fast-scurrying, white spiders with oversized heads and rows of teeth. Their predatory habits posed issues for the rebels at Chopper Base in “Star Wars Rebels”, as they started ensnaring prey within cocoons. Reacting fiercely to negative emotions and boasting tough skin that resists blaster bolts, krykna prove formidable adversaries. A comparable creature, the knobby white ice spider, assaulted Din Djarin and Grogu in the icy caverns of Maldo Kreis. The relentless swarm of spiders came close to overwhelming the Mandalorian himself.

6. Ysalamir

For all Star Wars Legends fans! The reptilian beings you see here would give Jedi a terrible nightmare as they possess the ability to push back the Force. When gathered, these ysalamiri can generate a vast area of neutrality, significantly diminishing the Force’s power to such an extent that it becomes inaccessible to Force-sensitive individuals. In the book “Heir to the Empire,” these four-eyed lizards served as a potent tool for Grand Admiral Thrawn. It remains possible that they could one day cause fear among Jedi within the canon storyline as well.

7. Fyrnock

Firenewts flourish in the shadows, their luminous orbs serving as silent sentinels that track their prey from the gloom while creeping closer. Their menacing fangs and talons are daunting on their own, but when they hunt en masse, they become nearly untouchable. Yet, just like vampires, their vulnerability lies in sunlight, which sears their delicate skin.
