7 best shows to watch if you like Prison Break

7 best shows to watch if you like Prison Break

As a long-time aficionado of gripping television series, I wholeheartedly endorse this list for those who share my penchant for edge-of-the-seat drama. If you’re still on the fence about diving into the captivating world of Peaky Blinders, let me tell you, mate – it’s a bloody good show! With Tommy Shelby and his gang of Peaky Blinders, led by the brilliant Cillian Murphy, this series is an absolute must-watch.

The popular TV show “Prison Break,” featuring Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, has returned to Netflix! It’s been quite a while since it became accessible for streaming on this platform, but now all five seasons are available as of August 2024. And guess what? It’s rapidly gaining popularity, moving up the Netflix Top 10 list.

As a fellow fan wrapping up “Prison Break” on Netflix, here are seven outstanding TV shows I’d recommend for your next binge-watch:

Money Heist

Money Heist, or as it’s known in Spanish, La Casa de Papel, is a thrilling heist series created by Alex Pina. It centers around The Professor, portrayed by Álvaro Morte, who assembles a team of seasoned criminals to execute the most audacious heist ever attempted in Spain. Their target? The Royal Spanish Mint. However, as with any complex plan, things don’t always go smoothly…

At present, you can stream all four seasons of the popular Netflix original show. The show features stars like Úrsula Corberó, Itziar Ituño, Alba Flores, Paco Tous, Pedro Alonso, Miguel Herrán, Jaime Lorente, and many others.

As a dedicated gamer of thrilling series, I’ve got to say that while Money Heist shares some similarities with Prison Break, it carves its own unique path. The heist genre has been well-represented, but when it comes to sheer brilliance, nothing beats Money Heist. It stands out as the cream of the crop in this genre.

This show does remind me of Prison Break, though, in its use of plot twists and reveals to keep viewers on their toes and spin the story in new directions.

You should also watch Berlin, the Money Heist prequel series, which is also on Netflix right now. And, it’s coming back for season 2.

Sneaky Pete

As a devoted fan, I must say that “Sneaky Pete” is not a show that gets talked about frequently, but it’s undeniably underappreciated. It’s been quite some time since this Amazon original series, starring the talented Giovanni Ribisi, first graced our screens back in 2016 on the streaming service. The series was ingeniously crafted by David Shore and Bryan Cranston, two gentlemen who have a knack for creating compelling crime dramas.

Title character “Sneaky Pete” follows the narrative of Marius (Ribisi), a trickster currently incarcerated. He assumes his cellmate’s identity, Pete, and upon release, he moves in with the family Pete was previously estranged from. This fascinating plot shares some resemblances with “Prison Break.”

1. For three seasons, the show was aired on Amazon Prime Video. Featuring an exceptional ensemble cast that includes Marin Ireland, Margo Martindale, Shane McRae, Libe Barer, Jane Adams, Efrat Dor, Peter Gerety, and Michael Drayer, this series also stars Bryan Cranston.

If you like Prison Break, I think you’ll really enjoy Sneaky Pete on Prime Video.

Ozark

Fans of “Prison Break” would likely find “Ozark” incredibly appealing! It shares some similarities with “Breaking Bad,” but with a darker, more intense edge. Plus, it’s packed with unexpected plot twists and turns, much like “Prison Break.”

In a new setting, Jason Bateman plays Marty Byrde, a former accountant who had been secretly laundering funds for Mexican drug cartels. After discovering that his partner was dishonestly pocketing some of the earnings, Marty devises a last-ditch effort: relocating from bustling Chicago to a secluded town in the Ozarks. Here, he intends to leverage the tourist industry, minimal regulations, and corporate power to amplify his money-laundering activities for the cartels, all in exchange for his own safety.

Over the course of the series, Marty and his spouse, Wendy (portrayed by Laura Linney), end up creating troubles that they struggle to resolve.

The television show “Ozark” boasts a remarkable ensemble of talented actors such as Julia Garner, Sofia Hublitz, Skylar Gaertner, Tom Pelphrey, Janet McTeer, Charlie Tahan, and many other distinguished performers.

If you haven’t caught up with “Ozark” yet, it’s high time you did – this Netflix crime series might just be the greatest of all time!

Lupin

Take a peek, Lupin isn’t quite like Prison Break, but both shows have their charm for me. I believe you’ll appreciate them too! It’s worth noting that these series excel at creating tension and keeping viewers hooked – a crucial aspect in marathon viewing.

The Netflix series “Lupin” is modeled on the well-known character Arsene Lupin, the Master Thief by Maurice Leblanc. In this show, the character Assane Diop, portrayed by Omar Sy, embarks on a journey to bring the man who killed his father to justice. Throughout his mission, Assane employs the disguises and talents of a skilled thief to execute one heist after another.

Here’s one way of rephrasing your text in a natural and easy-to-read manner:

Peaky Blinders

Peaky Blinders ranks among the top crime series available on Netflix. This gripping story unfolds in the early 1900s, focusing on Tommy Shelby (portrayed by Cillian Murphy) and his family, companions, and allies within the notorious street gang called the Peaky Blinders, who are known for their violent exploits.

As a gaming enthusiast transitioning into television, let me tell you that if you haven’t yet jumped aboard the Peaky Blinders train, now is your chance! Six gripping seasons are currently streaming on Netflix, and there’s even a movie special in the pipeline to wrap up this amazing series. Trust me, it’s going to be something truly extraordinary! Don’t miss out – dive into the world of Peaky Blinders and experience an unforgettable journey.

In the hit television series “Peaky Blinders,” acting talents such as Helen McRory, Tom Hardy, Sam Neill, Sophie Rundle, Annabelle Wallis, Paul Anderson, Joe Cole, and others take center stage. I firmly believe this show boasts one of the finest casts on TV today. Combining the charisma of Tom Hardy with Cillian Murphy? Absolutely unbeatable, if you ask me.

Actually, “Peaky Blinders” differs significantly from “Prison Break”, yet it offers numerous intriguing plot twists that will captivate viewers. At certain moments, the series can be quite emotionally intense, but overall, it’s a compelling watch that fans should appreciate.

Good Girls

Good Girls has a vibe similar to what a humorous version of Prison Break might be like, if its characters were amateurish rather than seasoned professionals. It’s easy to understand! This series is currently streaming on Netflix, but it initially aired on NBC in 2018. Over four seasons, the show gained popularity on the network before finding even greater success on the streaming platform.

In the show, Mae Whitman, Retta, and Christina Hendricks play Annie, Ruby, and Beth – these appear to be ordinary grown-up ladies, but they end up participating in a daring plan to steal from a nearby supermarket. This marks the start of their criminal escapades.

In my viewpoint, the television series Good Girls concludes prematurely. Initially, there were aspirations for a fifth season, but unfortunately, NBC decided to terminate the show. I understand that this may be significant to many viewers. However, I strongly recommend experiencing the captivating world of Good Girls, despite its final destination, as it is an exceptional series.

Watch the sneak peek and see if you like it!

Outer Banks

If you’re a fan of the thrilling drama “Prison Break,” then I would recommend adding “Outer Banks” to your list of shows to watch, as it shares similar elements and characters. Unfortunately, I omitted “Prison Break” from my suggested list for viewers who enjoy “Outer Banks,” but in hindsight, it should have been included due to its strong resemblance to the characters Lincoln and Michael, portrayed by the Pogues in a more youthful context.

The series “Outer Banks” narrates the journey of John B, played by Chase Stokes, as he embarks on a quest to discover the treasure his father spent his life seeking after he mysteriously vanished at sea. Eager to join in the adventure are John B’s companions – Sarah (Madelyn Cline), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), JJ (Rudy Pankow), and Kiara (Madison Bailey). This is merely the start of their thrilling tale!

Netflix will be releasing the fourth season of Outer Banks this autumn! We’re genuinely excited to find out what the Pogues have been up to in the new season. Essentially, catch up on all three seasons before October to stay tuned! You can definitely pull it off!

If you’re a fan of “Prison Break”, here are some shows I believe you’ll find quite engaging!
