60s sitcom star looks unrecognizable during rare LA outing… can you guess who?
Enthusiasts of the 1960s television series Petticoat Junction were buzzing following a seldom-seen performance by one of the show’s actors in Los Angeles, more than five decades since the program first aired.
In her eightieth year, the actress was seen bustling about town, looking lively and brimming with vitality, while running errands, seemingly unperturbed by the destructive wildfires that were consuming a large portion of the nearby coastline.
Clad in a corduroy jacket and loose-fitting jeans, she sported a laid-back style that was quite different from the lavish ensembles which had catapulted her to stardom during the ’60s and ’70s, such as her parts in musical productions like Bye Bye Birdie and Brigadoon.
However, her vivid red locks remained undimmed, echoing her past as one of the charming triplets who assisted their mother in managing the Shady Rest Hotel at Petticoat Junction.
Furthermore, it’s important to note that she was not only a part of the cast but also lent her voice to the character Jethrine Bodine on The Beverly Hillbillies. Interestingly, Max Baer Jr., who played the twin brother of Jethro, had his sister’s voice dubbed in for the role of Jethrine.
Can you guess who this iconic actress is?
If you guessed Linda Kaye Henning, you’re right!
Henning kicked off her acting journey in the 1950s’ initial phase, landing parts in films such as Rebel Without a License, Station without Borders, and Sea-girl Friend.
1963 found her taking on the role of a dancer in the movie “Bye Bye Birdie,” and she also made appearances in various stage productions like “High Button Shoes,” “Brigadoon,” and “The Sound of Music.
She frequently appeared on various television shows from the 1960s to the 1980s, with stints on The Ed Sullivan Show, Happy Days, Mork & Mindy, and The Facts of Life among others.
Henning also appeared on game shows like Family Feud and Match Game.
Her most iconic role was Betty Jo Bradley on Petticoat Junction, which aired from 1963 to 1970.
Among the cast, Henning was one of the rare few who remained consistently present, featuring in 219 out of the total 222 episodes during the show’s entire duration.
Initially billed as Linda Kaye, she used her full name from Season 6 until the show’s end.
Henning was born in Los Angeles to Paul Henning, a television producer, and his wife, Ruth.
1968 saw her tying the knot with Mike Minor, a man famously known for his role as Steve Elliott in Petticoat Junction. This was a year after their TV characters got married.
However, the couple divorced in 1973.
Later, in 1994, Henning married Leon Ashby Adams.
