6 absolutely terrifying horror movies to watch on Prime Video this Halloween
As a seasoned gamer and horror movie enthusiast with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that the selection of Halloween-themed movies on Prime Video this year is nothing short of spectacular! The sheer variety of classics, remakes, anthologies, and modern masterpieces is enough to make any horror aficionado’s heart race with anticipation.
Get ready, because Halloween is nearly here! If you’ve put off planning your horror movie marathon, now is the perfect moment to catch up. Prime Video offers a wide selection of both classic and contemporary horror films and series for your viewing pleasure.
Time to snuggle up under a blanket and watch some spooky films this Halloween season! Here are six chilling movies now available on Amazon Prime, perfect for your viewing pleasure.
1. Suspiria (1977) & Suspiria (2018)
Suspiria, directed by Italian filmmaker Dario Argento, is not just celebrated as a horror classic; it’s also one of his finest works. Known for its gruesome portrayal of body horror and vivid color palette, this masterpiece has been captivating audiences for years. In 2018, Luca Guadagnino achieved something remarkable: he crafted a compelling remake of an iconic film that holds its ground independently. Both versions are currently available on Prime Video and are highly recommended viewing experiences.
2. Terrifier & Terrifier 2
Art the Clown, a mischievous and intimidating character from the Terrifier series directed by Damien Leone, is rapidly growing into a modern horror legend. It’s highly recommended to watch these films before jumping into the latest installment, the third one. Art is undoubtedly the main attraction of these movies, but it’s also clear that fans are drawn to the excessive gore and shocking scenes in these unrated productions. Since Leone isn’t tied to any major studio, he has the freedom to create whatever he desires, resulting in iconic moments such as the hacksaw death scene and the bedroom scene from the second movie. The third film, Terrifier 3, surpasses both of those scenes with its most terrifying presentation yet.
3. Tales of Halloween
There’s something really charming about a horror anthology movie like Creepshow or Urban Legend, but people tend to forget about Tales of Halloween. Featuring Adrienne Barbeau as a radio DJ commentating the ten different stories, this comedy-horror flick takes on various Halloween legends and lore with a dark twist. Admittedly, it’s not as good as Trick ‘r Treat despite the similar concepts, but it’s still plenty of fun in its own right.
4. Night of the Demons
An abandoned funeral parlor doesn’t sound like my idea of a good party location, but I’m not a teenager existing in a horror movie. When a group of friends decides that the parlor is the ideal place for a night of Halloween debauchery they soon discover they’ve made a grave mistake when demons within wake up and start possessing the partygoers. Even though Night of the Demons was overshadowed at release by new releases from popular horror franchises like Friday the 13th, it has become a cult classic and spawned multiple sequels.
5. Wolf Creek
A pair of travelers carrying backpacks and a hitchhiker embark into Australia’s untamed wilderness, aiming to explore Wolf Creek and live an unforgettable experience. However, their journey doesn’t turn out as planned. The group encounters a seemingly friendly mechanic named Mick Taylor who offers assistance during their adventure. Unbeknownst to them, his intentions are far from benevolent. A new adaptation is upcoming, featuring John Jarratt reprising his role as Mick.
6. Doctor Sleep
Mike Flanagan is currently regarded as one of the top directors in the industry, yet his movie “Doctor Sleep,” a sequel to “The Shining” based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name, is frequently underestimated. This film showcases remarkable performances from stars Rebecca Ferguson and Ewan McGregor. Set three decades after the initial narrative, “Doctor Sleep” focuses on Dan Torrance (McGregor), who continues to grapple with the emotional scars left by his experiences at the Overlook Hotel as a child.
