50 Cent sues jeweler for trademark infringement after rapper warned him against copying his designs

As a lifestyle expert with years of experience in the entertainment industry, I find it disheartening to see instances like this one involving 50 Cent and Maksud Agadjani. The unauthorized use of someone’s likeness for commercial purposes is a clear violation of an individual’s rights, and it can have far-reaching consequences.

50 Cent has taken a jeweler to court, accusing them of imitating his unique chain necklace design and exploiting his image to market and sell these replicas.

According to reports from TMZ, the well-known rapper, who goes by the name Curtis James Jackson, has taken legal action against Maksud Agadjani and his company TraxNYC Corp. The lawsuit claims that they have breached copyright laws and invaded his right to privacy by using his likeness without permission.

Maksud shared content on social media that includes a replica of a 50 Cent necklace, along with pictures of the rapper, leading people to think he endorses these imitations. However, as a producer for Power, Maksud clarifies that such posts may give customers a false impression about his approval of counterfeit goods.

50 seeks for Maksud to compensate him with at least $5 million in damages, and also desires that the court prohibits the jeweler from exploiting or representing the rapper’s image.

Representatives for the rapper made it clear to TMZ that Mr. Jackson firmly opposes any misuse of his name or image in commercial settings without his permission.

The lawsuit also states Maksud ‘willfully and knowingly created’ replicas of a necklace custom made for the rapper, according to The Wrap.

In the lawsuit obtained by The Wrap, it is stated that the defendants, who run a jewelry business, intentionally and with full awareness, produced counterfeit versions of a unique necklace specifically designed for Jackson; they utilized Jackson’s name, portrait, and other intellectual property to deceive consumers into thinking the replicas were connected to, backed by, or endorsed by Jackson; furthermore, the defendants persist in using Jackson’s name, image, and intellectual property rights for their financial benefit.

The lawsuit added that Jackson did not buy his necklace from TraxNYC and Maksud and neither did he allow them to ‘capitalize on his goodwill and reputation in order to promote their goods and services.’

The lawsuit claims Maksud showcased the imitation necklace several times from August to October 2024.

In a post shared on Sunday, Maksud showcased an image similar to 50 Cent, complete with a cross pendant, to promote his replica versions of the accessory.

50 Cent recently unveiled a new cross that caught my eye, and surprisingly enough, I was the one who crafted it. Why not?… 50, I appreciate your inspiration. You truly embody gentlemanly qualities. I’m confident you won’t mind… I’m unsure where 50 acquired his, but let me tell you, I know the source of mine. It comes from him, Maksud mentioned as he displayed a picture featuring the musician.

50 Cent was cautioned by 50 in the comment area of a video on Tuesday, with the message: ‘This was a poor decision, trust me, you will come to regret it.’ To which Maksud responded, ‘@50Cent, don’t you have more important things to focus on?’ (In this version, I tried to maintain the original meaning while making it easier to read and understand for the average reader.)

However, on a Thursday, it seemed that Trax was addressing the lawsuit through his Instagram Stories. He suggested that the rapper should consider forgiveness and move past the incident.

He said, “I’m number fifty,” but what he truly conveyed was a message about the cross and its symbolism. The cross stands for forgiveness, atonement, absolution of wrongdoings. Embrace forgiveness, let go of grudges. Move on, my friend.

50 acknowledged the lawsuit on Thursday as well, posting a screenshot of an article about it.

Occasionally, somebody performs actions similar to this. To be honest, I’m not sure why they do it, but I am certain that by next Monday, I will have that need fulfilled.’ (He posted this with the caption.)

Not only is Maksud a jeweler, but viewers might also recognize from from the 2019 film Uncut Gems.

In the film, which starred Adam Sandler, Maksud played Yussi.
