5 things to thank Star Wars for this year

As a seasoned Star Wars enthusiast who’s been on this galactic journey for over three decades now, I can confidently say that this year has been nothing short of a celebration for us fans. With each passing day, Star Wars continues to weave its magic into our lives and remind us why we fell in love with it in the first place.

Every year, come Thanksgiving Day, I find myself gathering with loved ones and reflecting on the blessings in our lives. While gratitude is something we should practice all year round, the spirit of thanksgiving seems especially potent during this holiday. As a devoted Star Wars fan, I’d like to share some of the things that fill me with immense gratitude on this occasion. Perhaps it will inspire you to ponder your own list of blessings.

Here are 5 things to be thankful for with Star Wars this year.

Recently, a youthful acquaintance inquired if I had seen the series titled “The Acolyte” and shared my thoughts on it. In response, I confessed my deep affection for it, explaining that I had penned articles about it no less than twenty-four times.

I delved deeply into the pre-premiere guesswork and used information gathered from interviews as my guide. Seeing Amandla Stenberg perform a soulful rendition of the Force theme filled me with anticipation, confirming my hunch that they would bring an infectious energy to this project.

After reaching the intricate plots and turns of the narrative, I found it fascinating that every character was subtly questionable as a narrator. Thanks to Qimir, my trust in initial impressions has been shaken. I had strong suspicions about Master Sol being used as a scapegoat and often pondered why people seemed so joyful when the series was terminated. Although I’ll never grasp that final aspect, I remain proud of my continued affection for Mae and Osha’s captivating tales.

As a passionate music enthusiast with a particular fondness for film scores, I eagerly await every Star Wars project, ready to share my thoughts on why the music stood out as the highlight. The documentary delving into John Williams’ iconic compositions, which have beautifully set the mood for our cherished films, was an absolute must-watch for me.

The 90-year-old composer’s documentary movie was filled with fascinating history and obscure details, making it impossible for me not to recall his jazz past whenever I hear Figrin D’an in the Mos Eisley cantina now. Additionally, “Binary Sunset” carries a deeper emotional impact since it wasn’t the intended music selection for that memorable scene in the original Star Wars film.

25 years ago, when I was wrapping up my final high school exams, Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace was unveiled in theaters. It’s still hard to believe that so much time has passed since I traded my trigonometry book and English notes for a prime seat at the movies, eagerly awaiting its premiere.

On this occasion, I splurged on a ticket for a movie at AMC Boston Common and was reminded yet again of how fantastic it is. I found myself gripped by excitement during the podrace sequence and couldn’t help but smile when Padme revealed her identity as Queen Amidala. The moment Shmi Skywalker spoke to her son about his past as a slave on Tatooine almost brought tears to my eyes.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the film that finally brought the eagerly anticipated prequels, providing some insights into the journey leading to the Star Wars saga’s dramatic unfolding.

On a peaceful February afternoon, I found myself spending quality time with my youngest niece and nephew. Since their older siblings often let me join in on viewing shows like Star Wars and Harry Potter, they asked if we could watch something together. Seizing the opportunity, I selected Disney+ and initiated them into the mysteries of the Force through Young Jedi Adventures.

I loved being able to share something I loved with the kids I love, so when Season 2 came out, I was thrilled. The stories maintained their whimsy and simple lessons while still making me laugh. I still identify most with Nubs, but it’s nice to see the way that the kids who were once in over their heads are now starting to help others cope with similar feelings and frustrations.

I want the Alliance to win, but I always want more stories about the Empire. I’m intrigued by people who choose to fight on the side of tyranny and see the good in totalitarianism. So I looked forward to the release of these stories in Tales of the Empire. Morgan Elsbeth’s stories and the way that she placed herself within the Imperial system were fascinating and made me want to go back and watch Ahsoka.

What primarily drew me in was the storyline about Barriss Offee, a once-Jedi who has fallen and then repented. Being relatively unfamiliar with this character’s destiny, I was eager to have some of my questions addressed. She was yet another Jedi who dabbled in darkness for personal reasons, but it was intriguing to witness her moment of understanding that she could reverse course from it.

I’d like to express my gratitude to the ingenious minds behind Star Wars for the wonderful creations they’ve shared with us this year. We eagerly anticipate even more in the future.
