2025 is proving to be an exceptional year for fans of Stephen King, with a total of five upcoming films and TV series set for release. With the buzz surrounding the critical reception of a previous 2025 King release, there’s plenty to get excited about (for more insights into the reviews). Known as the ‘King of Horror’, Stephen King has undeniably earned that title through his writing of classics like ‘It’, ‘The Shining’, and ‘Carrie’. However, some of the most cherished adaptations from his works, such as ‘The Shawshank Redemption’ and ‘Stand By Me’, fall under the genre of emotional dramas.
Since 1974, when his first novel was released, Stephen King has penned over 60 books and around 200 short stories, ensuring an abundant selection of works to explore. Thankfully, his latest projects span various genres, demonstrating that he’s not merely a master of horror but also a versatile storyteller capable of crafting everything from chilling tales to heartwarming dramas. Whether you prefer horror films or emotional narratives, King has authored a captivating story tailored to your taste.

The Life of Chuck

Title Starring Tom Hiddleston: The Life of Chuck
In essence, this film, titled The Life of Chuck, veers away from the realm of horror and leans more towards science fiction or fantasy drama. Derived from a short story with the same name, the movie chronicles the life of Charles “Chuck” Krantz, illustrating that each individual harbors a complex inner world, highlighting the idea that we all possess our unique internal lives.
Chuck’s Life” initially had a restricted theater run in June, but it can now be purchased or rented for streaming.
The Institute

In a simpler and more conversational paraphrase, the story “The Institute” revolves around Luke Ellis (previously known as Joe Freeman), who is mysteriously kidnapped by an unknown organization called The Institute. As the narrative unfolds, Luke, along with other children, navigates through a journey to understand their significance and why they are being targeted. While many of King’s novels share a common theme of children possessing power beyond their years, “The Institute” pushes this concept further, leaving readers pondering how they would react if they were in Luke’s shoes, faced with the enigmatic Institute.
The whole eight-part series, originally from MGM+ and available for streaming, features Ben Barnes (known for his role in “Shadow and Bone”) and Mary-Louise Parker (renowned for her work in “Weeds”).
The Long Walk

As a movie lover, I’d describe “The Long Walk,” originally penned under Richard Bachman (King’s pseudonym), as an intriguing journey set in an eerie alternate America, governed by a stern military regime. In this chilling scenario, the most anticipated event of the year is the Long Walk – a grueling competition where participants are forced to maintain a relentless pace of three miles per hour. The last survivor, after traversing countless miles, emerges victorious. What initially seems like a simple competition unravels into a psychological endurance test stretched over time.
In the upcoming film, you’ll see Cooper Hoffman from “Licorice Pizza,” David Jonsson known for his role in “Industry,” and the legendary Mark Hamill famous for his work in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” Meanwhile, “The Long Walk” is set to hit theaters on September 12.
It: Welcome to Derry

The series titled “It” transports fans back to the haunting town of Derry, set in 1962, and serves as a prequel to the 2017 and 2019 films of the same name. As a new family settles into the seemingly tranquil small town, they soon discover that Derry might not be as serene as it appears.
The upcoming show delves into spooky historical events depicted in films and investigates the mysterious eating habits of the town’s resident monster. Bill Skarsgard will once again play Pennywise the Clown, a character he portrayed iconically. The series is set to debut on HBO Max in October.
The new show examines eerie historical instances like those shown in movies and explains how the town monster obtains its food. Bill Skarsgard will return as Pennywise the Clown, a memorable character he played before. The series launches on HBO Max in October.
The Running Man

A book by Bachman titled “The Running Man” is an action-packed dystopian story that illustrates just how desperate people can become in unfavorable situations. Originally published in the 1980s, the novel was set in the future year of 2025. However, when it was adapted into a film featuring Arnold Schwarzenegger, the timeline shifted to 2017, amplifying the chilling sense that this dreadful future could soon be our reality.
Starting soon, viewers can watch Glen Powell, fresh from his role in “Twisters,” portray Ben Richards. In an upcoming film titled “The Running Man,” Ben puts his life on the line by competing in a reality TV show to amass enough funds to save his daughter. The movie premiers in theaters on November 14.
