5 Star Trek announcements we hope to get at the New York Comic Con

As a dedicated Star Trek fan with over three decades of passion for this extraordinary universe under my belt, I eagerly await the New York Comic Con each year. It’s not just another event on the calendar; it’s our last chance to catch up on news before the year ends and a potential goldmine for exciting announcements.

Enthusiasts of Star Trek eagerly anticipate the potential final significant news event of the year: New York Comic Con. Typically a low-key gathering, this convention is often Star Trek’s last chance to share updates before the year ends. While the franchise usually reveals most of its news at San Diego Comic-Con or other major Star Trek-centric conventions, in recent times, New York Comic Con has gained a reputation for being news-rich.

Previously, indeed, we witnessed the unique blend of Kid Cudi and Star Trek. Although it might not have been a massive fan favorite, it was undeniably a substantial milestone. This year could follow suit, as there’s a strong possibility of some major announcements stemming from the event. Particularly intriguing is the upcoming Lower Decks finale, which will be unveiled shortly after.

So here are five things we hope to see at the event.

First look at Star Trek: Starfleet Academy

We might not anticipate much, but there could be a reveal of cast and crew photos soon. It would be delightful to catch a glimpse of the talented individuals dressed in their Star Trek uniforms, or perhaps some behind-the-scenes images from the first episode they’ve filmed. If, of course, they’ve started shooting seriously by that time.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds teaser

Although we’re still waiting for the third season of Strange New Worlds, production seems to be actively moving forward, filming new episodes. We might not get a full-length trailer just yet, but perhaps a quick sneak peek of the cast at work could be shared during the event in New York City. This small glimpse might help keep us excited until they’re ready to unveil a more comprehensive trailer for the series.

The official date for Star Trek: Section 31

We’re eagerly anticipating Section 31 to share their thoughts on whether the streaming movie was worth its price. We’ve seen a trailer and have a rough idea of when it might air, but an exact release date is yet to be revealed. The New York Comic Con (NYCC) could potentially provide us with that information, or at least a general month in 2025 to look forward to.

Any announcement on the dueling Star Trek films

In different stages of production, we’ve learned about three to six upcoming Star Trek films. Among these, Section 31 is expected to hit screens first, followed by the long-awaited Star Trek 4 and a prequel movie that seems less appealing to fans. There are also whispers of other prospective projects, but more details might surface after Section 31 releases. Some productions may be announced later, while others like Star Trek could potentially start filming tomorrow if Paramount can align everything. We’re eagerly anticipating the New York Comic Con to reveal Star Trek 4 or another installment in the franchise.

An announcement of a third-season for Star Trek: Prodigy

The title says it all.
