5 scary werewolf movies and shows on Netflix right now

As a horror enthusiast who has spent countless nights huddled under blankets, watching every supernatural creature flick that comes my way, I must say, Netflix has truly outdone itself this Halloween season! From the chilling suspense of “It’s What’s Inside” to the nerve-wracking anticipation of “Don’t Move,” there’s no denying that the streaming giant has been on fire.

This Halloween, Netflix has beefed up its horror collection with some fantastic additions. Among these new releases is the critically acclaimed movie “It’s What’s Within” and the highly anticipated horror film produced by Sam Raimi, titled “Don’t Shake That Thing.

But one of the underlooked movies releasing this week is the French film Family Pack, a humorous take on a popular board game featuring werewolves. Thinking about werewolves, the following list includes a few other popular titles now streaming on Netflix featuring furry monsters.

Family Pack (2024)

A delightful horror-comedy movie titled “Family Pack” is a French production directed by François Uzan, drawing inspiration from the widely known game “The Werewolves of Miller’s Hollow”. In a similar vein to “Jumanji”, a family playing this game inexplicably finds themselves transported back into the historical Miller’s Hollow. As they grapple with their new reality, they realize that their lives are at stake as they become the prey of a werewolf. Much like the rules of the game, they must collaborate to locate and eliminate the werewolf before it manages to catch them first.

Viking Wolf (2022)

The 2022 Netflix release of this Norwegian film offers an engagingly chilling thriller experience, with adequate amounts of gore and visual effects. Its plot revolves around a teenage girl who encounters something gruesome at a party, leading her to have peculiar visions and urges that you’ll quickly understand are ominous. The storyline follows the predictable trajectory from there.

Van Helsing (2004)

Although receiving unfavorable reviews upon its debut in 2004 and sporting visual effects that now seem somewhat outdated, Van Helsing has developed a loyal fanbase over time. It’s a cheesy yet entertaining flick filled with the elements one would anticipate from such a film, boasting grand castles, an abundance of classic Universal monsters, and all the action that comes with them. A perfect choice for a fun-filled movie night, it’s worth giving Van Helsing a try. Moreover, its star-studded cast featuring Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale as the leads is certainly another reason to check it out.

Legacies (2018-2022)

Describing the spin-off series “Legacies” as “scary” could be an overstatement, depending on one’s perception of fear. While adults may find it less frightening, it could potentially give younger viewers a few chills at times due to its supernatural themes and elements.

This show centers around Hope Mikaelson, a unique “tri-brid” and Klaus Mikaelson’s (Joseph Morgan) daughter, as she studies at the Salvatore Boarding School alongside other supernatural adolescents. Remnants from the original series are incorporated, with occasional appearances by familiar faces! Not only does Legacies include werewolves, but it also showcases witches, vampires, and a variety of other mystical beings roaming about.

Sirius the Jaeger (2018)

Fans of anime might want to explore the series titled “Sirius the Jaeger” directed by Masahiro Andō. Although it was released in 2018, its run consists of just 12 episodes, making it a quick yet chilling adventure focused on vampire hunters during the 1930s. Interestingly, one of the principal characters is a werewolf seeking revenge against the vampires who ruined his old residence.
