5 Must-Watch Shows and Movies This Week
As April winds down, it’s not a signal for my movie-loving self to slow down. This week, two highly anticipated streaming series are gracing our screens with their new seasons. Moreover, there’s a promising contender for one of the finest streaming films this year making its debut.
As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the long-anticipated second season of “Andor” has finally graced our screens on Disney+. This season promises to fill in the narrative blanks between the events of Season 1 and the epic “Rogue One.” On a different note, Netflix fans are in for a treat as well, with the final season of one of their beloved shows, “You,” set to debut only a few days later.
Andor, Season 2, 3-episode Premiere – April 22 (Disney+)
Though not everyone has been enamored with every new Disney-produced Star Wars film and series, the general consensus was that the first season of Andor on Disney+ made the subscription worthwhile. With the second season now premiering, there’s hope it will continue to impress. Following the structure of Season 1, each set of three episodes will tell a separate story arc. Unlike before, all three episodes in a week’s set will be released concurrently.
Gladiator II – April 22 (Prime Video)

While “Gladiator II” might not have scaled the same lofty peaks as its predecessor, it remains a grand cinematic experience in its own right. The outstanding portrayal by Denzel Washington serves as a compelling reason to subscribe to Prime Video and catch this movie for yourself.

Sea Lions of the Galapagos/Guardians of the Galapagos – April 22 (Disney+)
Every year on April 22, Earth Day rolls around, and for several years now, Disney has chosen this day to unveil its latest Disneynature documentary. This year, we can look forward to two new releases: “Sea Lions of the Galapagos“, with Oscar winner Brendan Fraser as the narrator, and “Guardians of the Galapagos“, featuring Blair Underwood as the voiceover for a behind-the-scenes documentary. These Disneynature films draw inspiration from Walt Disney’s original True Life Adventures, and it’s heartening to see that the studio continues to produce them today.

You, Season 5 – April 24 (Netflix)
For four seasons now, You has consistently captivated audiences with its gripping plotlines. With the fifth season set to premiere, viewers are eagerly waiting to discover how the story concludes, as this season will be the last for You.

Havoc – April 25 (Netflix)
Director Gareth Evans, known for crafting one of the most outstanding action movies ever made with “The Raid: Redemption“, now steers Tom Hardy in the gritty crime thriller “Havoc“. If this film measures up to even a small fraction of Evans’ top-tier work, it would make having a Netflix subscription worthwhile and potentially keep you subscribed just so you can rewatch it multiple times.

Baby Girl – April 25 (Max)
Initially, there was much excitement about A24’s “Babygirl” suggesting another potential Oscar nomination for Nicole Kidman. Although she didn’t receive the nod this time, her performance remains impressive, demonstrating the talent of one of our esteemed living actresses. It’s a film definitely worth watching when it becomes accessible with a Max subscription.
As we move into May next week, I’m preparing myself for the regular shift in streaming content offerings. My preferred movies seem to be migrating from one platform to another, but thankfully their original productions will remain where they are.
