5 movies you must see in November on Netflix and Prime Video – including an “unforgettable” thriller

If the chilly November weather has you feeling down, there’s good news! Lots of great new movies are now available to stream. You can enjoy everything from a gripping thriller starring Taron Egerton to a lighthearted Christmas heist film – there’s something for everyone.

Digital Spy has compiled a list of five top shows currently available on Netflix and Prime Video, perfect for watching in the coming weeks. You can find the list below.

Frankenstein

Guillermo del Toro, the director of The Shape of Water, is releasing his long-awaited movie adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic Gothic novel on Netflix this month, after a short run in theaters.

The series Frankenstein stars Oscar Isaac as the scientist Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as the Creature he brings to life. Their fateful experiment has devastating consequences for both of them.

The movie is receiving rave reviews, currently holding an 85% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The Observer praised it as a “thrillingly immersive, sensual experience.” The film stars Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, and Charles Dance.

Playdate

Alan Ritchson, known for his role in Reacher, displays his comedic talents in a new action film, teaming up with Kevin James from Grown Ups.

The movie Playdate centers on Brian, a stay-at-home dad who’s just lost his job. He arranges a playdate for his son with Jeff, another stay-at-home dad, but things quickly turn dangerous when they find themselves being chased by a dangerous group of mercenaries.

The new Prime Video movie also stars Sarah Chalke from Rick and Morty, Alan Tudyk of Rogue One, and Stephen Root, known for his role in Barry.

Streaming on Prime Video from 12 November.

Train Dreams

The film Train Dreams, already gaining recognition and award nominations, stars Joel Edgerton, known for his role in Star Wars, and Felicity Jones, of The Brutalist. It’s set in the early 1900s.

The Netflix film tells the story of Robert Grainier, a lumberjack who helps build America’s railroads. He marries Gladys, but his demanding job frequently keeps him separated from his wife and daughter. His life changes in a surprising way when he begins to appreciate the forests he’s been destroying.

The movie has received overwhelmingly positive reviews, earning a 96% ‘Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes. HeyUGuys praised it as a “simply stunning film from start to finish.”

Streaming on Netflix from 21 November.

Jingle Bell Heist

Looking for some Christmas cheer? Netflix has plenty to offer this year, including the new movie Jingle Bell Heist starring Olivia Holt, known from Cruel Summer, and Connor Swindells, who you might recognize from Sex Education.

This story centers around two thieves who both plan to rob a high-end London store on Christmas Eve. However, when they team up, they discover a potential romantic connection.

Streaming on Netflix from 26 November.

She Rides Shotgun

Taron Egerton stars in this exciting new crime thriller, which critics are loving – it currently has an 86% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

I just finished reading about this movie, She Rides Shotgun, and it sounds amazing! It’s based on a book from 2017, and it’s about a guy getting out of prison who has to protect his little girl. They’re on the run from some really dangerous people, and it’s a story about how they connect and try to survive everything thrown at them. I’m definitely checking it out!

Critics praised the movie, with Vulture calling it “unforgettable” and Variety describing it as “gripping.” The Hollywood Reporter went further, suggesting it was even more intense than the popular show Breaking Bad.
