5 movies you must see in January on Netflix, Prime Video and more, including “gripping” thriller

Now that the holidays are over, we’ve gathered some movie recommendations to help you relax and enjoy some downtime.

Start the new year with a great watch! We’ve got a list of new movies and shows coming to streaming services like Netflix, Prime Video, and NOW in January.

From a hotly-anticipated Netflix rom-com to a star-studded buddy comedy, here’s a list of some of the best films hitting our screens this month.

All the Devils Are Here

This tense thriller stars Sam Claflin as the leader of a group of criminals stuck in a remote hideout, where their bonds are strained and hidden truths begin to surface.

Cast is rounded out by Eddie Marsan, Suki Waterhouse, Burn Gorman, Tienne Simon and Rory Kinnear.

Barnaby Roper directed All the Devils Are Here, which premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in August 2025. The film was described as a tense story about a breakdown of morals, leading to a dramatic climax.

I’ve been hearing a lot about this, and it seems like people are pretty divided! A lot of reviewers really liked the bold performances and called it a seriously dark look into the characters, according to the San Jose Mercury News. It’s definitely piqued my interest!

Streaming on Sky Cinema and NOW from 4 January.

The Life of Chuck

Mike Flanagan’s new fantasy drama stars Tom Hiddleston as Charles ‘Chuck’ Krantz, an accountant who loves to dance and unknowingly holds the secret to everything in the universe.

The movie tells Chuck’s life story backwards, beginning with his death and ending with his childhood. Young Chuck is portrayed by Jacob Tremblay.

Nick Offerman narrates The Life of Chuck, which features a talented cast alongside Tom Hiddleston, including Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, and Mark Hamill.

The movie first showed at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024, and then was released in theaters last August.

Streaming on Netflix on 5 January.

People We Meet on Vacation

The new Netflix movie, People We Meet on Vacation, is based on the popular 2021 book of the same name and is already generating a lot of buzz.

Okay, so this new rom-com follows Alex, played by Tom Blyth, and Poppy, played by Emily Bader. They’re friends who go on vacation together every year, and it looks like things get complicated – maybe even turning into something more! It’s cool because it shows their relationship evolving over a bunch of years.

The cast includes Sarah Catherine Hook and Lukas Gage from The White Lotus, along with Lucien Laviscount, Jameela Jamil, and Molly Shannon, known from Emily in Paris.

Streaming on Netflix on 9 January.

The Rip

Friends and collaborators Ben Affleck and Matt Damon are teaming up again for a new thriller called The Rip, which will be available to stream on Netflix. The film is set in Miami.

The movie centers around a team of Miami police officers who stumble upon a massive, multi-million dollar cash find. As word of the seizure spreads, they find themselves constantly watching their backs, unsure who they can trust – even among those close to them.

Also starring are Teyana Taylor, Steven Yeun, Sasha Calle and Kyle Chandler.

Streaming on Netflix on 16 January.

The Wrecking Crew

In this funny action-comedy set in Hawaii, Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista play two very different half-brothers who team up to investigate how their father died.

Directed by Ángel Manuel Soto, who also directed Blue Beetle, and written by Jonathan Tropper (known for Your Friends & Neighbours), The Wrecking Crew features Jacob Batalon from the Spider-Man films, Morena Baccarin of Deadpool, and Maia Kealoha, who starred in Lilo & Stitch.

Streaming on Prime Video on 28 January.
