What to Read Next
State of Fear
Following the Brazilian crime series Brotherhood, State of Fear explores what happens when the leaders of a powerful criminal organization are moved to the highest-security prisons, putting the entire group at risk.

During the story, the daughter of Brotherhood’s leader, Edson (played by Seu Jorge), is kidnapped by crooked cops. This leads the gang to declare a ‘State of Fear,’ unleashing a series of violent attacks on police stations and security forces, throwing the city of São Paulo into complete chaos.
Meanwhile, Elisa’s aunt, Cristina (played by Naruna Costa), attempts a rescue, and they both grapple with difficult questions of right and wrong and the consequences of violence. Their current decisions are complicated by past actions, ultimately determining what happens to them.
Streaming on Netflix from 11 February.

Firebreak
This new Spanish thriller is packed with suspense. It centers on Mara, a woman struggling with the loss of her husband, who takes her family to a summer home hoping to find peace. But their getaway turns into a terrifying ordeal when her daughter, Lide, disappears into the woods.
Then, a wildfire starts, and the family is told to evacuate. But they ignore the warnings and venture out to search for Lide on their own, even as the fire spreads. They pin their hopes on a local park ranger, but as the situation gets more dangerous, Mara starts to believe someone isn’t telling the truth and that the fire might not be the only problem.
Belén Cuesta and Diana Gómez, known from Money Heist, along with Enric Auquer (A House on Fire) and Joaquín Furriel (Billionaires’ Bunker), lead the cast of Firebreak. The series is directed by David Victori, who also directed Sky Rojo.
Streaming on Netflix from 20 February.

The Bluff
In this thrilling new movie, Priyanka Chopra Jonas stars as Ercell Bodden, a woman with a past as a pirate. She must defend her family when her old captain, Connor (played by Karl Urban), comes after them seeking revenge.
The story follows Ercell, a skilled fighter who uses both her sword and clever traps to defend her loved ones. She’s locked in a dangerous battle against Connor and his ruthless crew. As she fights to save her family, Ercell also begins a path to rediscover her strength and the powerful warrior she used to be.
Okay, so I was super excited to find out who else is in the movie! Apparently, Zack Morris from EastEnders, Temuera Morrison who I loved in The Mandalorian, Safia Oakley-Green from Anemone, and Ismael Cruz Cordova from The Rings of Power are all going to be in it too. Seriously awesome cast!
Streaming on Prime Video from 25 February.

Dead of Winter
This suspenseful thriller features Emma Thompson as a woman coping with loss who finds herself stranded at a secluded cabin. She quickly discovers the cabin’s owners are holding a young woman captive, and with no way to call for help, she becomes the hostage’s only chance of survival as the captors are dangerous and plan to kill.
The Radio Times called Dead of Winter “gripping,” and the Daily Telegraph (Australia) complimented Thompson’s powerful and realistic acting.
Brian Kirk, who directed episodes of Game of Thrones, helms this film, which also features Judy Greer of Marvel fame and Marc Menchaca from The Abandons.
Streaming on Paramount+ from 27 February.

Bring Her Back
The Philippou brothers, known for their horror films, released this critically praised movie last year. It centers on step-siblings who are taken in by a mother struggling with grief, but their new life takes a frightening turn when they discover a disturbing ritual hidden within the house.
The new horror film Bring Her Back is receiving strong positive reviews, earning an 89% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Mashable compared it to the filmmakers’ previous hit, Talk To Me, calling it just as scary, and possibly even more terrifying.
Sally Hawkins, known from Paddington, stars in the film with Billy Barratt (Invasion) and Sora Wong. Sally-Anne Upton, who appeared in Neighbours, is also part of the cast.
Streaming on Sky Cinema/NOW from 28 February.
