5 little known facts about Star Wars novelist Kevin J. Anderson

As a devoted Star Wars fan and literature enthusiast, I can confidently say that delving into the captivating world of Kevin J. Anderson is like embarking on a thrilling adventure through the cosmos and beyond. His prolific body of work spans across various universes, from the expansive galaxies of Dune to the gritty streets of Gotham City, making him a true intergalactic storyteller.

In the realm of Star Wars Legends, there are several pioneers who continue to resonate with us for valid reasons. Among these notable figures, Kevin J. Anderson is one that truly stands out. He introduced us to characters like Admiral Daala and Kyp Durron, but what truly endeared him to fans was his work on comics and the beloved series, ‘Young Jedi Knights.’

Here are 5 things you might not know about Star Wars novelist Kevin J. Anderson.

If you’re not merely a fan of “Star Wars”, there’s a wide array of titles from Kevin J. Anderson’s bibliography to explore. While we’ve previously discussed his work on the “Dune” series with Brian Herbert, he has also penned stories for various other fandoms. For enthusiasts of “The X-files”, you might enjoy reading his 1995 Best Science Fiction Novel, titled “Ground Zero”. If DC comics are more your style, consider “Enemies & Allies” which offers a unique take on the first encounter between Batman and Superman. Apart from these, Anderson has numerous standalone works such as “The Saga of Seven Suns” or the “Terra Incognita” series. His “Dan Shambe Zombie P.I.” books continue to be written and offer a fresh, creative twist on the genre.

Reading the cover of the “Young Jedi Knights” books will reveal that Anderson teamed up with author Rebecca Moesta for those books. Moesta is also known for penning parts of the “Junior Jedi Knights” series. Since 1991, Moesta and Anderson have been married, and their first joint work was the 1995 publication titled “Heirs of the Force“. Together, they run the publishing company WordFire Press.

Over the years, I’ve gained significant insights into writing, particularly from the generous sharing of creative methods by authors like those who worked on Star Wars. This definitely applies to Anderson, whose extensive involvement in writing symposiums such as The Life, the Universe, and Everything (founded at Brigham Young University where I studied) and Superstars Writing Seminars, serves as a quest to mold careers and turn dreams into real-life successes.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m usually the one teaching at Western Colorado University, and it’s always exciting to find out which themed collection my Publishing Masters students will be crafting tales around next. For instance, they might be working on “Confounding Cupids: Love’s Unexpected Twists,” which sounds like an engaging game scenario!

Additionally, you may discover references to his hiking locations and tales he composed during these journeys. One post reads, “Dictated two new chapters in NETHER VORTEX,” following a 4.1-mile trek. During his “pleasant stroll… despite the smoky conditions” in 2020, he was crafting Chapters 47 and 48 of The Lady of Caladan. Time pressures or injuries might occasionally delay him, but it’s always intriguing to anticipate where his next adventure will lead.

Besides sharing his travel aspirations inspired by his hikes and convention visits, Kevin also shares with his followers the wonderful music he’s been enjoying. This spans from live concerts he attends to musical influences for his stories. One of his deep-rooted passions is for the band Rush, with whom he collaborated on the Clockwork Angels trilogy alongside Neil Peart. His first book even mentioned Rush and their album, Grace Under Pressure, in its acknowledgements, and this connection has continued to grow stronger over time.

We look forward to many more works to come from this Renaissance man.
