5 good shows like Beauty in Black
As a young adult who’s only vaguely familiar with the original Dynasty series from the 80s, I found myself drawn into the captivating world of the Carrington family in the modern CW remake. The high-stakes corporate feuds and glamorous lifestyles are a thrilling blend that keeps me on the edge of my seat.
tyler perry’s “Beauty in Black” has consistently ranked as the most popular new show on Netflix since its debut on October 24th, topping the Netflix Top 10 list.
In my gaming world, I’m a character entangled in the saga of the prosperous Bellaire clan, known for their legitimate and shady dealings in the haircare sector. When I, a dancer named Kimmie (Taylor Polidore Williams), decided to shake up my life, I found myself ensnared in the tangled web of deceit, corruption, and criminal activities that swirl around this influential family.
Currently on Netflix, you’ll find eight episodes of “Beauty in Black.” However, here’s some great news! The entire first season actually comprises 16 episodes. Netflix has divided this season into two halves. As per a recent report from Unilad, the second half of “Beauty in Black” season 1 is scheduled to arrive in spring 2025.
We shared a list of five shows you should watch if you like Beauty in Black!
P-Valley
Where to watch: Starz and The Roku Channel
In many aspects, “P-Valley” shares similarities with “Beauty in Black,” particularly in their focus on dancers, clubs, and the intriguing characters that inhabit these worlds. However, while both series are filled with drama, the way it unfolds in “P-Valley” feels more authentic and organic. This is a stark contrast to the dramatic elements in “Beauty in Black.” I want to clarify that this comparison does not imply any criticism of “Beauty in Black,” but rather highlights the exceptional quality of “P-Valley.
In 2020, the series P-Valley, written by Katori Hall, made its debut on Starz. Among its cast are Brandee Evans, Shannon Thornton, Nicco Annan, Sklyer Joy, Harriet D. Foy, Elarica Johnson, Parker Sawyers, and several others.
To date, the show has aired for two full seasons. The audience is eagerly anticipating P-Valley season 3. Regrettably, it seems that we might not see its return until as late as 2025.
This show narrates the tale of Uncle Clifford Sayles, a proprietor of a strip club in Mississippi, and his dancers, among them being Mercedes, Keyshawn, and others.
If you like Beauty in Black, you’re going to love P-Valley!
Power
Where to watch: Starz and The Roku Channel
If you’re a fan of “Beauty in Black”, I highly recommend checking out “Power”. While both shows share similar themes, “Power” surpasses “Beauty in Black” in terms of quality so far. They both have a similar atmosphere that you might enjoy.
The television show called “Power” was originally developed by Courtney A. Kemp. It first aired on Starz in the year 2014 and continued airing for six seasons until it concluded in 2020. Even though “Power” has finished, there are four additional spin-offs of the show that you can check out as well! Once you start following this storyline, it’s hard to tear yourself away from it!
In this show, Omari Hardwicke portrays James St. Patrick, better known as Ghost. The narrative unfolds as Ghost endeavors to depart from his criminal past and establish a nightclub. However, finding an exit proves more challenging than the entry itself. Throughout the series, Ghost strives to maintain harmony in his attempts to make things work out.
You can watch all six seasons of Power on Starz right now!
Dynasty
Where to watch: Netflix
Leaving out one of the greatest soap operas ever made from our list for a soapy drama TV show was simply unthinkable. The CW series debuted in 2017 and serves as a modern reboot of the iconic series that aired in the 1980s, which I unfortunately never got to witness. Since I’m more familiar with the newer version, I personally prefer the revamped Dynasty.
For five seasons, the show aired on The CW network, concluding in 2022. Currently, you have the opportunity to stream all five seasons on Netflix.
Originating from Sallie Patrick, Josh Schwartz, and Stephanie Savage, the television series Dynasty revolves around the Carringtons, a wealthy family embroiled in fierce power struggles to control their corporation.
Stars such as Elizabeth Gillies, Nathalie Kelley, Alan Dale, Nicolette Sheridan, James Mackay, Sam Adegoke, among others shine in the popular CW television show.
Succession
Where to watch: MAX
There’s simply no television series more adept at blending family dynamics with high-stakes drama than Succession. In fact, some might argue that it stands unrivaled in this genre, boasting a reputation as one of the greatest dramas ever produced. This critically acclaimed and highly-rated show continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
Written by Jesse Armstrong, Succession is a series that delves into the lives of the wealthy Roy family, who control a vast media empire. With Logan Roy (played by Brian Cox) preparing for retirement, his offspring and other members within the business strive to maneuver their positions in order to take control of the company.
I’m thrilled to be part of the enthusiastic crowd who admires the exceptional cast of “Succession”! The talented Jeremy Strong, Hiam Abbass, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook, Natalie Gold, Alan Ruck, Matthew Macfadyen, and many others share the screen with Brian Cox in this captivating series.
Currently, you have an opportunity to enjoy four captivating seasons of the critically acclaimed series “Succession” on MAX. This show stands out as the cream of the crop in this collection. Unlike the more soap-operatic “Beauty in Black,” it offers a more substantial viewing experience. If you’re a fan of soapy dramas, “Beauty in Black” might be more your cup of tea, but if you’re open to something exceptional, don’t miss out on “Succession.” Over the past few years, it’s hard to find a TV show as compelling and well-crafted as this one. In comparison, “Succession” easily surpasses “Beauty in Black.
Territory
Where to watch: Netflix
It’s worth noting that several series on this list have been long-running, prompting us to offer “Beauty in Black” enthusiasts a fresh viewing option: “Territory”. Although these shows differ in many aspects, they share common themes, notably the intertwining of criminal and business spheres. Characters in both are seen maneuvering to either climb up or avoid being drawn further into these realms.
On the very same day, “Territory” and “Beauty in Black” both made their debuts on Netflix. The former series, taking place in Australia, follows the Lawson family’s struggle to maintain their cattle ranch amidst contentious situations and obstacles posed by adversaries and other complications.
In the latest series created by Ben Davies and Timothy Lee, you’ll see performances by Sam Corlett, Anna Torv, Robert Taylor, and Michael Dorman.
There is one season of the family crime series on Netflix right now!
That’s the list of shows to watch like Beauty in Black! We’ll share more titles as the series develops. Stay tuned for the Beauty in Black Part 2 release date on Netflix.
