5 Game of Thrones cast members we need back on our screens

As a cinephile who has spent countless hours poring over the vast expanse of television and film, I can confidently say that the world of Westeros left an indelible mark on me. The characters that graced our screens in Game of Thrones were nothing short of extraordinary, and their performances transcended the boundaries of the small screen to capture the hearts of millions worldwide.

The hit series “Game of Thrones” catapulted several actors into widespread recognition, making stars out of Kit Harington, Sophie Turner, and Peter Dinklage. You can’t escape seeing them in various places nowadays. However, there are other talented cast members from “Game of Thrones” who have faded from the spotlight after their roles concluded. It would be wonderful to see more of them on our screens again.

As a devoted fan, I’ve been missing some familiar faces from the Game of Thrones world. While some actors have decided to take a break from acting or have chosen less prominent roles, perhaps waiting for the perfect part, here are five cast members I’d love to see grace our screens once more:

Kerry Ingram

Kerry Ingram captivated us as Shireen Baratheon. We’re still in shock over her father’s betrayal through the human sacrifice storyline. It was devastating to witness Ser Davos grieve for her, only to have to mourn her again when he discovered the truth about her death – it was truly heartrending.

After her last appearance, Ingram hasn’t had a significant role on TV or in films lately, and she seems almost unrelated to the character Shireen. She has made guest appearances in a few episodes of the British soap opera “Doctors” and some episodes of “Barbarians Rising” and “Free Rein,” but it would be great to see her take on more prominent roles.

Jack Gleeson

You may recognize the Irish actor primarily for his portrayal of the despised Joffrey Baratheon, or perhaps more accurately, Joffrey Lannister. This prince-turned-king left viewers eagerly waiting for the moment he would meet his end. Jack Gleeson’s acting skills effectively drew us in and made us detest the character at every opportunity.

Unfortunate was how some disrespectful comments were directed towards the actor following this event. I truly hope that people can differentiate between a character and an actor in the future, as it might be one of the reasons Gleeson took a break from prominent acting roles for a period.

Great news! Actor Gleeson is set to return to our screens shortly, with appearances on Netflix’s Sex Education currently available for viewing. However, his most significant role post-Game of Thrones will be in House of Guinness, where he takes on the character Byron Hodges, delving into the lives of the Guinness family. Additionally, Gleeson is set to star as Puck in The Sandman and Farrell in Safe Harbor.

Isaac Hempstead Wright

Regardless of your personal views on Bran Stark becoming king, there’s no denying that we found ourselves cheering for the character throughout the series. Bran was a kind-hearted boy, struggling to adapt to a new life after being tossed from the tower and left wheelchair-bound. His performance, especially under such challenging circumstances, made Isaac Hempstead Wright an actor worth keeping an eye on. However, since the end of Game of Thrones, he hasn’t been seen in many roles. In fact, his only major post-Thrones appearance was as Edward in Voyagers.

Isaac Hempstead Wright has demonstrated his versatility, yet unfortunately, the ventures he was involved with failed to take flight owing to a variety of reasons such as the pandemic and the Hollywood strikes of 2023. However, there’s optimism that we’ll get to see more of him in the time ahead.

Ben Hawkey

Some characters didn’t start off as favorites, but eventually won our hearts. Hot Pie is one such character. Initially seen as a hindrance to Arya, he eventually became her friend. Rather than joining the Wall, he found a home at an inn where he honed his bread-making skills. His farewell scene, when he gave Arya a loaf of wolf-shaped bread, was a touching end to their friendship.

Since departing from “Game of Thrones”, Ben Hawkey has secured a single acting role so far, but let’s hope more opportunities arise for him in the future, should he be interested.

Rory McCann

I’ve primarily zeroed in on some of the younger cast members from “Game of Thrones,” but it’s also important to highlight some adult actors who deserve more screen time. Rory McCann beautifully portrayed the Hound, a character whose hard exterior hid an underlying tenderness that emerged gradually. His relationships with Sansa and Arya Stark were particularly captivating.

Since the conclusion of Game of Thrones, McCann has been involved in various productions such as Netflix’s The Irregulars and the film The Damned. At this moment, you can catch him on the big screen in Gladiator II. Here’s hoping that these recent movie appearances indicate a larger return to our screens in 2025. We could use more of his rugged charm!

Game of Thrones is available to stream in full on Max.
