5 fun slasher movies to watch after Time Cut on Netflix

As a seasoned gamer who has spent countless hours navigating the treacherous landscapes of virtual realms, I must say that these comedic slasher movies have given me a refreshing twist to my usual escapades. Netflix’s “Time Cut” might not have wowed the critics or audiences, but it certainly paved the way for some exciting recommendations.

As a fan, I can’t help but share my excitement about Netflix’s recent release of the time-traveling horror flick, Time Cut, perfectly timed for Halloween. If you found yourself enthralled by its thrilling narrative, then get ready to laugh your heart out as there are a plethora of comedic slashers with similar themes waiting to be discovered!

As a time-traveling gamer, I found myself immersed in “Time Cut,” stepping into the shoes of a teen in 2024 who inadvertently jumps back to the early 2000s. In this heartwarming yet underrated adventure, I’m tasked with preventing my sister from meeting a tragic fate. Despite its less-than-stellar reception by critics and viewers alike, it’s a film that offers an intriguing premise that might not be to everyone’s taste, but could strike a chord with some gamers like me.

Happy Death Day (2017)

In “Happy Death Day,” the storyline shares similarities with both “Time Cut” and “Totally Killer,” but it presents a unique twist: instead of focusing on someone else’s murder, we follow a character named Tree (played by Jessica Rothe) as she attempts to avoid her own demise. Essentially, it blends elements from “Groundhog Day” and “Halloween.” On her birthday, Tree receives the most unfortunate gift – being brutally murdered.

Initially, she’s faced with her own demise, but then she’s given a chance to avert it by reliving the same day multiple times until she can identify the true murderer. The second installment, “Happy Death Day 2U“, maintains its fun factor while emphasizing the sci-fi aspects rather than the grim slasher elements that were more prevalent in the original.

Freaky (2020)

The movie titled “Freaky” shares a similar mood with the films of its director and co-writer, Christopher Landon, who is also known for the “Happy Death Day” series. At one time, there were whispers suggesting that these two films might intersect in some way for a possible third installment of “Happy Death Day”, but so far, this idea hasn’t been realized yet.

In a different take compared to most movies on this list, which revolve around time travel, “Freaky” offers an entertaining blend of horror and comedy. The film centers around Millie, played by Kathryn Newton, a high school senior, who finds herself in an unusual predicament – she’s switched bodies with the Blissfield Butcher (portrayed by Vince Vaughn), a notorious serial killer. Instead of time travel, “Freaky” explores the intriguing sci-fi concept of body swapping, a popular trope in many films.

The Babysitter (2017)

Among all the films listed, “The Babysitter” stands alone as it avoids any science fiction elements. Instead, it’s a classic blend of slasher and comedy, revolving around a babysitter who turns out to be part of a satanic cult. Starring Samara Weaving, this Netflix Original was warmly received when it debuted. If you enjoyed this movie, you might also like its sequel, titled “The Babysitter: Killer Queen“.

Totally Killer (2023)

The film “Time Cut” is often likened to another due to their shared storylines. You could say that “Totally Killer” is a more sophisticated, R-rated adaptation of the Netflix movie.

In this show, Kiernan Shipka plays a young character who journeys back in time to the late 1980s with the goal of preventing the Sweet 16 Killer from claiming her mother’s life. During 1987, she encounters her mom’s teenage self (portrayed by Olivia Holt), and they collaborate to ensure her own survival. Julie Bowen is also part of the cast. If you didn’t enjoy Time Cut, I highly recommend giving this one a try instead.

Now streaming on Prime Video.

The Final Girls (2015)

When I first watched “The Final Girls,” it reminded me so much of “Totally Killer” that was initially released. Both movies share a striking resemblance in their narrative, as they revolve around characters who somehow get transported to the past and find themselves battling against a ruthless slasher.

In this scenario, a band of adolescents find themselves transported into the environment of a 1980s horror film titled “Camp Bloodbath.” Interestingly, one of the teenagers has a personal connection with the film’s star, prompting her to take action and safeguard that individual from meeting an untimely demise in the future. The movie “The Final Girls” offers an enjoyable experience and shares similarities with “Cabin in the Woods,” as it satirizes conventional horror movie clichés while also paying tribute to them.
