5 Female Marvel Heroes Confirmed for Phase 6: Sue Storm, Shuri, Yelena, Ghost, Mystique

When it comes to this female roster of MCU superheroes, their stories are just getting started. 

The sixth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe commences this summer with the release of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“, followed by two more Avengers movies, “Spider-Man: Fresh Start“, and many more exciting projects to come.

Although specifics about the upcoming phase aren’t fully disclosed yet, Marvel Studios has indeed revealed that at least five female characters will feature in Phase 6, and there might be additional ones unveiled in the coming months.

5 Female Marvel Heroes Confirmed for Phase 6

Sue Storm – Vanessa Kirby

Title “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” marks the initial Phase 6 production by Marvel Studios. However, the upcoming Matt Shakman film serves as merely a starting point for the Invisible Woman’s journey within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel Studios has confirmed that Invisible Woman, created by Jack Kirby, will reappear in the upcoming movie, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, now in production. She is expected to feature prominently in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ as well. Furthermore, a sneak peek of a new Fantastic Four installment, ‘First Steps’, hints at a significant narrative arc for Sue Storm, which could potentially extend into the broader Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Shuri – Letitia Wright

In 2022’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” I stepped into the role of Black Panther. Now, eagerly anticipating the reception, I am thrilled to announce my return in the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday.” Alongside me will be my fellow cast members from “Wakanda Forever,” including Winston Duke as M’Baku and Tenoch Huerta Mejia portraying Namor the Submariner.

Yelena – Florence Pugh

After making her debut in “Black Widow” and a brief appearance in “Hawkeye” on Disney+, the character Yelena Belova, played by Florence Pugh, will take center stage in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s last Phase 5 film, “Thunderbolts.” Later, she is expected to reappear alongside the cast of “Thunderbolts” (excluding Olga Kurylenko’s Taskmaster) in “Doomsday.

As a discerning movie critic, I find myself confidently predicting that given Florence Pugh’s burgeoning status within Marvel Studios, she appears primed to take on significant roles such as those in “Secret Wars” and potentially other Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) productions.

Ghost – Hannah John-Kamen

As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I can’t hide my excitement upon learning that Hannah John-Kamen’s character, Ava Starr/Ghost from Ant-Man and the Wasp, is making a comeback in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). She’ll first appear in the upcoming Thunderbolts* film, and then she’ll reappear again during Phase 6 in Avengers: Secret Wars. It’s great to see such compelling characters returning to the MCU!

After regaining her phasing abilities, Janet van Dyne finds herself with a new lease on life in multiple aspects. It promises an engaging journey to follow her development within the Thunderbolts team, and we eagerly await updates regarding her role in Marvel’s Phase 6 as an antihero.

*Thunderbolts is a fictional supervillain/superhero team appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.

Mystique – Rebecca Romjin

It came as quite a surprise that among the characters announced in the casting for Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel Studios revealed that Rebecca Romijn would be reprising her role as the shape-shifter, Mystique.

Romjin portrayed the blue-skinned mutant character initially in the initial X-Men film series, and later made a brief reappearance in 2011’s X-Men: First Class. However, Doomsday represents the first time this X-Men actress joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it remains uncertain if this will be her only appearance there.

Bonus #1: Silver Surfer – Julia Garner

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Julia Garner will make her debut in Phase 6’s “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” taking on the role of a character named Shalla-Bal, who serves as Galactus’ space-riding herald, much like how Vanessa Kirby portrays Sue Storm.

In its latest trailer, Marvel Studios has officially revealed the character of Silver Surfer, played by Linda Cardellini; however, details regarding her role beyond the 2025 movie have yet to be disclosed.

Bonus #2: Peggy Carter – Hayley Atwell 

As of now, it’s unverified news, but it seems that I, a supporter, am excited about the rumor that Hayley Atwell, the talented actress behind Peggy Carter in live-action and animation, might be joining the cast for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’.

In her more recent roles as Peggy, Atwell’s performances have ignited curiosity among viewers. For example, her dream dance with Chris Evans’ Steve in Endgame served as a fitting finale, but fans now understand that Captain created an alternate timeline prior to the Multiverse Saga. Later in 2022, Atwell portrayed Captain Carter, a role she also lent her voice to in What If…?, in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Tragically, this version of Captain Carter was brutally killed by Wanda.

Is it Peggy Carter from a past MCU film or a new character that Hayley Atwell will portray in Avengers 5 and 6? If it’s indeed Peggy Carter, does this signify Chris Evans’ return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Among all the actresses confirmed for Phase 6 of the MCU, Atwell’s inclusion certainly stirs the most curiosity.
