5 DC & Marvel movies and shows still coming in 2024 we can’t wait to watch

It looks like there are some exciting new projects coming up in the world of entertainment! Here’s a summary of three upcoming releases that have been generating buzz:

2024 has seen a decrease in superhero adaptation releases compared to previous years. Marvel encountered a string of critical setbacks with their latest films and shows, leading them to take a step back and reassess their approach moving forward. In contrast, DC is scheduled to restart its live-action film universe in 2025 under the guidance of James Gunn and Peter Safran. As a result, there has been a noticeable quietness from the DC camp featuring Superman and Batman in the meantime.

Luckily, there’s still plenty to look forward to in the realm of Marvel and DC productions this year. From the sole Marvel film set for release in 2024, to the growth of Robert Pattinson’s Batman saga on streaming platforms – here are our top five most eagerly-anticipated superhero adaptations! (Keep in mind that this list is arranged according to their scheduled releases).

Deadpool & Wolverine

Can we anticipate a resurgence of Marvel’s renowned standard following the criticism they’ve faced post-“Avengers: Endgame”? Despite the negative buzz, the upcoming collaboration between “Deadpool” and “Wolverine” seems poised to restore Marvel’s former glory.

The Mercury Mouth Character has starred in two fantastic live-action films, filled with witty quips, decapitations, and even temporal journeys. Long-awaited by fans, a team-up between him and Logan is finally coming to fruition. Excitingly, Hugh Jackman will once again embody the role that revolutionized superhero movies at the turn of the millennium.

As a dedicated gamer and avid movie fan, I can confidently assert that the upcoming collaboration between Deadpool and Wolverine is not an overstatement when it comes to being one of the most eagerly anticipated films of the year. The trailers have already promised us a thrilling experience filled with R-rated action, surprising multiversal appearances, poignant moments that will tug at our heartstrings, and a generous helping of bloodshed. What makes this even more exciting is that we won’t have to wait much longer to witness Marvel’s latest success story unfold on the big screen. Deadpool & Wolverine is set to be released in just a few short weeks (at the time of writing this), specifically on July 26.

The Penguin

As a fan, I’d describe it this way: In the exciting new DC Universe created by James Gunn and Peter Safran, “The Penguin” isn’t making an appearance. However, fear not! This beloved character isn’t missing entirely; instead, he belongs to the Elseworlds collection – a captivating set of projects that exist independently from the primary DC continuity. Imagine it as an alternate reality where storytellers have the liberty to craft their unique narratives without being bound by a single, all-encompassing plotline.

As a fan, I can tell you that just because The Penguin won’t start from scratch with a blank canvas in the HBO series, it doesn’t diminish his potential. In the Matt Reeves Batman universe introduced in 2022, we witnessed Robert Pattinson saving Gotham City from the Riddler, leaving a power vacuum. And let me tell you, Oswald Cobblepot is just the guy to seize that opportunity and make it count, seven days a week.

The television show is rated TV-MA for its graphic violence and bleak atmosphere, making the anticipation for this gripping DC villain tale set in one of the darkest cities even greater. Notably, viewers can look forward to a variety of intriguing twists, turns, and new characters according to Sarah Aubrey, the head of originals at Max. Therefore, we eagerly await the debut of Oswald Cobblepot on HBO Max on September 8.

Agatha All Along

When WandaVision debuted on Disney+ on January 15, 2021, it captured the attention of viewers worldwide with its innovative approach to superhero tales, enigmatic plotline, and outstanding acting from stars Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany. A significant factor contributing to the show’s achievements was the introduction of captivating new characters, particularly Agatha. Fan enthusiasm for her character was so strong that a standalone series focusing on Agatha is set to be unveiled later in the year.

Unlike WandaVision, however, Agatha All Along seems like a dark and twisted series that’ll make the most out of the MCU’s supernatural side in the creepiest way possible. It seems like a refreshing departure from every Marvel project that has come before, especially considering the only other “scary” movie was Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (even if it wasn’t all that scary to begin with). So not only is that dark tone something to look forward to, but its story also seems like it could be beyond memorable.

In an intriguing turn of events, it appears that “Agatha All Along” will explore the aftermath of Wanda’s demise as its namesake character grapples with this significant loss and faces a daunting challenge to regain her powers. Will Agatha be able to recover her abilities? And how can she effectively confront Aubrey Plaza’s formidable adversary while undergoing this transformation? Moreover, the enigma of Billy Maximoff’s influence on the narrative remains unanswered – where does his brother Tommy fit into the picture? The only solution lies in watching “Agatha All Along,” which premieres on Disney+ on September 18.

Joker: Folie à Deux

The groundbreaking Joker film from 2019 surpassed all predictions upon its release. Five years later, we’re eagerly anticipating the premiere of its highly-awaited sequel in cinemas. It’s safe to say that fans have been waiting with bated breath for this moment.

Similar to “The Penguin,” “Joker: Folie à Deux” is set to be an “Elseworlds” tale, implying it won’t alter the main DC narrative. Yet, this freedom provides immense excitement since unforeseen events may unfold. For instance, the prequel appeared to introduce a significant deviation in Bruce Wayne’s origin story. Instead of the classic comic book version, the Joker unwittingly instigated the deaths of Bruce’s parents rather than Thomas and Martha Wayne. Thus, we ponder what other surprises await us in this intriguing follow-up.

In addition to the anticipation, the trailer for “Joker: Folie à Deux” is truly captivating. Yet, it maintains an element of ambiguity. Though we’ve seen glimpses of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn and some musical scenes, other aspects remain shrouded in mystery. Even if the trailer offered a clearer view of what lies ahead, can we fully trust it? Given that the Joker is notoriously untrustworthy (as the first film demonstrated), it’s difficult to predict the accurate narrative. Consequently, we’ll be in cinemas on October 4 to finally uncover the truth.

Venom: The Last Dance

The Venom saga is coming to an end.

In today’s reality, it’s astonishing that the Lethal Protector might possess a three-part storyline without engaging in a single battle against Spider-Man. However, according to recent whispers, Venom: The Last Dance could potentially alter this scenario. For the current version of Eddie Brock, confronting his arch-nemesis Spider-Man before his departure would be an unparalleled delight. Furthermore, such a clash would pave the way for Venom to don the iconic white spider emblem in at least one film.

Although the anticipated cameo may not materialize, the upcoming Venom chapter holds great promise. With an extraterrestrial invasion looming large, Eddie Brock on the run from military agencies, and surprisingly, a symbiote forming an alliance with a horse, this installment is definitely worth our anticipation.

It’s no longer a hidden fact that the last two “Venom” films haven’t reached the same level of finesse as other popular superhero productions. Nevertheless, they offer an enjoyable experience with plenty of action scenes and humorous moments. Although this tone might not perfectly capture the menace of Venom as a villain, it has resonated with viewers in the past. Therefore, we can only hope that Sony delivers a satisfying conclusion when “Venom: The Last Dance” is released on October 25, 2023.
