5 crime dramas not returning in fall 2024 we'll miss

As a dedicated gamer of crime dramas and a loyal fan of the genre spanning over two decades, I’ve seen my fair share of ups and downs. This year has been particularly challenging, with some heart-wrenching cancellations that have left me feeling more frustrated than a level 90 character stuck in an endless boss fight.

2024 has undeniably brought its share of disappointing cancellations. Additionally, there will be adjustments to the television lineup next season, which means some much-loved programs won’t make their return in the fall. Some crime dramas are causing us more frustration than others over their absence.

As a long-time TV enthusiast with a keen eye for the latest trends and updates in the world of television, I find myself frequently perusing through various listings to keep abreast of the latest developments. However, I’ve come to notice that compiling a comprehensive list of both canceled and postponed shows, particularly for broadcast or cable networks, is an arduous task. The reason being, streaming shows often eschew traditional seasonal release schedules, making it challenging to incorporate them into such lists with any degree of accuracy.

5 TV crime dramas we’d love to have back in fall 2024

Law & Order: Organized Crime

As a long-time fan of “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” I was initially excited about the prospect of more Elliot Stabler’s story unfolding. However, upon learning that the show is moving to Peacock for its fifth season and will be shorter due to the streaming move, my enthusiasm has waned somewhat.

As a longtime fan of the Law & Order franchise, I find it refreshing to see that the latest iteration is taking a more serialized approach compared to its predecessors. Having binge-watched countless hours of TV shows on streaming platforms, I can attest to the fact that this format works exceptionally well in today’s digital age.

Walker

For several years now, this series has shifted to its mid-year and off-season slots, but initially, it aired during fall. Given this history, we’re including it on our list. Regrettably, the series was abruptly canceled after four seasons, not due to any issues with the show itself. Instead, the decision was linked to Nexstar taking over the network, transforming it into something quite different from what we once cherished.

The conclusion was crafted in such a manner that it’s somewhat fitting for a series finale. Yet, there was an unresolved plot point where James Van Der Beek’s character left soaps on the Walkers’ porch, leaving room for an intriguing continuation in Season 5. Sadly, we won’t be able to witness how that story unfolds.

CSI: Vegas

The unexpected termination occurred for the revival series titled CSI: Vegas. This show served as a continuation of the original CSI, transporting us once more to the crime lab in Las Vegas, albeit with a fresh team at the helm. Notably, they collaborated closely with some familiar faces from past teams we’ve grown attached to over the years.

As a long-time fan of television, I must say that the recent series I watched has truly stood out. The character and relationship development was exceptional, something that doesn’t always come by easily in broadcast TV. What made it even more remarkable was the strong female lead, who commanded respect and admiration from her team. It was refreshing to see such a portrayal on screen, as I have often found myself yearning for more diverse and empowering roles for women on television. I sincerely hope that this show continues to thrive and inspire others to create more programs like it, as we need more representation of strong female characters in the media landscape.

So Help Me Todd

In May 2024, CBS faced some regrettable choices, one of which involved the sudden termination of the series “So Help Me Todd.” This show provided a refreshing change from typical television crime dramas by offering insights into the world of private investigators and focusing more on civil crimes rather than criminal cases.

It’s apparent that the final episode wasn’t designed to be the concluding part of the series. Instead, it ended on a suspenseful note, one that unfortunately remains unresolved. We crave for some closure and explanations!

NCIS: Hawaii

You probably didn’t expect me to overlook this one, right? This cancelled CBS TV crime drama is the one I’ll miss the most, and its termination is the cancellation I despise the most – it shouldn’t have happened as it was performing well in viewership compared to two others and had a strong social media presence. I am determined to keep fighting for its return, but one thing is undeniable. It won’t be back this fall.

It’s hard to imagine why NCIS: Hawaii was taken off the air. The series introduced a captivating team, shed light on significant law enforcement matters in Hawaii, and presented one of the most compelling LGBTQ relationships on television. It seems that there was so much to appreciate about this program.
