It’s the weekend, which means lots of new movies are now available on streaming services! If you’re planning a cozy movie night with popcorn soon, you’ll find plenty of options here.
Okay, so this week’s watchlist is looking really good. I’m hyped to check out this new sci-fi thriller – everyone’s saying it’s a total masterpiece by Steven Spielberg. Plus, I’ve heard amazing things about this ’90s movie with Jim Carrey, apparently it still holds up. And to top it all off, there’s a Best Picture winner from Britain that I’ve been meaning to see for ages. It’s gonna be a good week for gaming and movies!
Digital Spy has compiled a list of five top movies currently available on streaming services like Netflix and BBC iPlayer, plus a few extra recommendations.
Best movie new to Netflix this week

Okay, so Fight Club is seriously one of those movies everyone talks about. It came out in ’99 and it’s directed by David Fincher. Basically, it’s about this regular office guy, played by Edward Norton, and this soap salesman, Brad Pitt, who start this underground fight club with other guys who are just totally fed up with their boring lives. It’s a really messed up, but awesome, film.
With Helena Bonham Carter in a supporting role, this film is famous for perfectly capturing the spirit of Generation X and boasts a truly unforgettable plot twist. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s definitely worth watching with some popcorn!

Best movie new to Prime Video this week

If you’re looking for a great movie from the late 1990s, check out The Truman Show. Jim Carrey stars as Truman Burbank, a man who unknowingly lives his entire life as the star of a reality television show.
With a remarkably high 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, The Truman Show has been praised as both funny and heartwarming. Critics at Q Network called it a surprisingly relevant comedy, noting its insightful commentary on our culture’s obsession with media, television, and celebrities.
This week on Prime Video, you can also watch these titles: Django Unchained, Jerry Maguire, The Thing (1982), Mystic River, Snowpiercer, and The Lighthouse.
Best movie new to BBC iPlayer this week

I absolutely loved The King’s Speech! It’s a really moving story about King George VI and his battle with a stammer as he gets ready for a huge speech. What I found so compelling was how he started working with a speech therapist named Lionel Logue, and they ended up becoming really close friends. It’s just a beautiful film about overcoming obstacles and the power of friendship.
Despite a somewhat debated Best Picture win over The Social Network at the 2011 Oscars – and Colin Firth’s Best Actor victory – The King’s Speech has consistently been recognized as a powerful and heartwarming biographical film. Deep Focus Review called it “as touching as it is inspiring.”
Here’s what’s new on BBC iPlayer this week: The Wicker Man, The Royal Hotel, Thirteen Lives, and Four Weddings and a Funeral.
Best movie new to ITVX this week

The 2002 Steven Spielberg thriller Minority Report has become increasingly unsettling over time, largely due to its depiction of technology. Critics at Ebert & Roeper praised it as a visually stunning and powerfully atmospheric film.
In a futuristic Washington D.C., Tom Cruise plays the leader of a special police unit that stops crimes before they happen. The unit predicts who will commit murder and arrests them beforehand, but the story takes a twist when Cruise’s character is himself accused of a future crime.
Also new to ITVX this week: Pitch Perfect, Date Night, The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Best movie new to Channel 4 this week

The 1983 film Local Hero, starring a young Peter Capaldi, is a critically acclaimed classic. It achieved a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and The Times described it as a delightful Scottish-American film with a wonderful soundtrack.
Bill Forsyth’s film, Local Hero, tells the story of an American oil executive dispatched to a charming Scottish village with the goal of purchasing it for a new refinery. But as he gets to know the villagers, he starts to wonder if he’s doing the right thing.
This week on Channel 4, you can also watch these films: Knock at the Cabin, The Frighteners, I Am Not a Witch, and Sonic the Hedgehog.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a beautifully illustrated 100-page tribute to Sir David Attenborough, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online.
