Marlon Brando’s unforgettable performance as Terry Malloy in the crime drama On the Waterfront earned him his first Academy Award and helped cement the film’s place as a classic.
The movie centers around a boxer who once had great potential but was convinced to lose a fight by a powerful gangster. After a worker is killed at the docks controlled by the gangster, the boxer joins forces with the victim’s sister and a priest to give evidence in court.
With a remarkable 99% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, On the Waterfront has been hailed by The New Yorker as one of the most impactful American films of the 1950s.

Best movie new to Prime Video this week
Released in 2016, the action comedy The Nice Guys has gained a dedicated following and is now considered a cult classic. Time Out magazine even called it “perfect.”
Ryan Gosling plays Holland March, a detective, and he partners with Russell Crowe’s character, Jackson Healy, a tough guy, to investigate the case of a missing teenager.
The film is directed by Shane Black, who also directed The Predator, and features a strong supporting cast with actors like Margaret Qualley, Angourie Rice, Matt Bomer, and Yaya DaCosta. Keep an eye out for a quick cameo by a famous actor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

Best movie new to BBC iPlayer this week
Paddington 2 is widely considered one of the greatest films ever made, and it’s easy to see why! This delightful sequel brings back the beloved, marmalade-loving bear for another heartwarming adventure.
In this adventure, Paddington is wrongly accused of theft, and the Brown family rushes to clear his name and find the actual thief: the delightfully mischievous Phoenix Buchanan, played with brilliance by Hugh Grant. Grant’s performance, especially a memorable dance scene, is a true standout in the 2017 film.
According to News.com.au, Paddington 2 is a thoroughly charming film that is sure to delight viewers.

Looking for a fun movie the whole family will enjoy? You can’t go wrong with the ’80s classic, The Goonies.
This adventure film showcases early performances from actors who would become famous, like Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, and Ke Huy Quan. The story centers around a group of kids who find a treasure map while also trying to save their homes from being taken away, all while being chased by criminals who also want the treasure.
This idea comes from a story by the renowned adventure filmmaker Steven Spielberg, and the screenplay is by Chris Columbus, who also wrote Home Alone.

Best movie new to Channel 4 this week
The 1993 comedy Groundhog Day stars Bill Murray as a grumpy weatherman forced to relive Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney endlessly. He’s stuck in a time loop, repeating the same day over and over again.
The idea behind the film resonated so strongly that its title is now commonly used to describe being trapped in a frustratingly repetitive cycle. The movie itself is also critically acclaimed, boasting a 94% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film also features Andie MacDowell, Chris Elliott, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Brian Doyle-Murray. It was directed and co-written by Harold Ramis, who was best known for his role in Ghostbusters and sadly passed away recently.
