5 best movies added to Netflix, BBC and more this week including ‘one of the best thrillers ever’

Lots of fantastic movies are available on streaming services, and this week, Netflix and BBC iPlayer have added even more great options.

Whether you’re in the mood for a widely acclaimed thriller or a more recent, hilarious horror film, there’s plenty of great movies to choose from.

Best movie new to Netflix this week

Released in 1991, The Silence of the Lambs is a psychological horror film starring Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins. Digital Spy praised it as “one of the best thrillers of all time.”

In The Silence of the Lambs, FBI trainee Clarice Starling attempts to track down the serial killer Buffalo Bill. To help with the case, she seeks the insights of the brilliant but dangerous Hannibal Lecter.

The film is full of memorable scenes, like the gripping conversation between Clarice and Hannibal while she visits him in prison. It was a huge success at the Academy Awards, winning five major prizes: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, and Best Screenplay.

Best movie new to Prime Video this week

Bodies Bodies Bodies is a new comedy horror movie about a group of wealthy friends who throw a party at a secluded mansion. Their night takes a dark turn when a game they play goes horribly wrong.

Featuring Amandla Stenberg (from The Acolyte), Maria Bakalova (The Apprentice), Myha’la (Industry), Rachel Sennott (I Love LA), and Pete Davidson (Saturday Night Live), the film Bodies Bodies Bodies was a box office hit despite its small budget. Critics also praised the movie, giving it an 86% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with Metro highlighting its “thrilling satirical energy.”

Best movie new to BBC iPlayer this week

The 2015 thriller Sicario stars Emily Blunt and is directed by Denis Villeneuve, known for Dune and the recent James Bond films. The story follows an FBI agent who joins a special team to dismantle a powerful Mexican drug cartel.

I recently checked out Sicario, and man, it’s intense! It stars Benicio del Toro – you might recognize him from One Battle After Another – and Josh Brolin, who was great in Wake Up Dead Man. Everyone agrees it’s a super tight, gripping thriller, but it’s also got a lot of depth. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 91% score, which is pretty much perfect, so I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for something more than just explosions.

Best movie new to ITVX this week

With a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, War for the Planet of the Apes is widely considered the strongest film in the rebooted Planet of the Apes series.

The 2017 film continues the story of the battle between humans and apes, now exploding into a full-blown war. Caesar, the chimpanzee leader voiced by Andy Serkis, seeks revenge and clashes with a determined colonel played by Woody Harrelson.

Best movie new to Channel 4 this week

Directed by Steve McQueen, known for 12 Years a Slave and alongside Blitz, the 2011 drama Shame tells the story of a New Yorker struggling with a hidden sex addiction. His life is complicated when his sister makes a surprise visit, forcing him to deal with his problems.

Starring Michael Fassbender (from Black Bag) and Carey Mulligan (from The Ballad of Wallis Island), the film Shame has been praised as “raw, elegant, and uncompromising” by Little White Lies. It also has a strong 79% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
